The role

SoFi is seeking an energetic, detail oriented, self-motivated, and intellectually curious Governance & Policy Director to join our Fraud Risk team. This role - as part of the 2nd Line of Defense - will own, establish, maintain and monitor adherence to enterprise fraud policies and standards that define clear expectations and guidelines for the execution of fraud related activities. Additionally, the person in this role will have accountability for managing the Fraud Risk Committee facilitating discussions with leadership and ensuring we operate within our defined risk appetite, escalating through the committee structure up to and including our Board as needed. The ideal candidate will have experience in risk management, governance, and compliance, and will be an agile learner, think strategically, and possess strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

What you'll do:

  • Monitor and address fraud risks, issues, and resolve escalation items.
  • Oversee the fraud risk management framework and implementation of the framework.
  • Own, refine and monitor adherence to the fraud policy and standards.
  • Maintain oversight and governance for the execution of risk-related initiatives.
  • Own and develop the firmwide fraud risk training agenda / curriculum and mandate trainings across the enterprise
  • Liaise with Regulatory Affairs for any interactions with regulators and/or internal audit - ensuring successful outcomes through careful planning and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with business units, Enterprise Risk Management, and Fraud teams to define the Enterprise Fraud Risk Appetite and tolerance. Monitor Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) against tolerance thresholds.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed enterprise-wide fraud taxonomy that classifies various types of fraud. Ensure clarity of process ownership and accountability across the product processes.
  • Leverage the fraud taxonomy to define the risk identification in key end-to-end business processes and ensure taxonomy maintenance for addition of new products and processes.

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree with 12+ years experience in risk management, compliance, and/or governance within the financial services industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of banking products, processes and regulations
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, influencing and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently or within a group under minimal daily direction.
  • Intellectually curious. You adapt to change, embrace bold ideas, ask questions, test assumptions, and challenge conventional thinking
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues, develop innovative solutions, and make data-driven decisions
  • Experience leading and managing meetings with cross functional teams, effectively and efficiently communicating and driving engagement.
  • Proficiency in data analysis preferred and deriving meaningful insights for decision-making
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, take ownership of deliverables, and drive assigned tasks to completion, in a timely manner.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management principles and practices
  • Experience with regulatory compliance and corporate governance standards
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives and competing priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to change
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office products
  • Strong team player
  • Experience with Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) systems

The base pay range for this role is listed below. Final base pay offer will be determined based on individual factors such as the candidate's experience, skills, and location.
