Job Description
As part of United Way’s Data & Measurement team, the Data Analyst position creates data insights that drive benchmarking and decision-making during our annual $55+ million community fundraising campaign.  The Data Analyst is responsible for collecting and distributing reports, creating dashboards, developing data visualizations and responding to data requests from United Way’s fundraising team. Additionally, the Data Analyst provides cross-departmental support for dashboards and data visualizations used by organizational leadership and key stakeholders to monitor progress towards strategic goals and KPIs.


FUNDRAISING DATA INSIGHTS
  • Develop, create, and distribute weekly reports to monitor and benchmark United Way campaign fundraising efforts, including: overall performance, pace towards fundraising goal, accounts at risk, performance pace indicators, performance of key donor groups.
  • Support campaign goal-setting and projection-setting processes at beginning and close of annual fundraising period.  Provide data insights to account managers and organizational leadership to support decision-making; maintain database to reflect corporate and individual goals and projections; monitor accuracy of fundraising data post-campaign.
  • Update key CRM account information to support campaign reporting.  Includes tracking gift commitments in collaboration with account managers, estimating and projecting future gifts. 
  • Provide accurate, clear, and timely information in response to ad hoc data requests from fundraising team, using combination of CRM datamining techniques and SQL queries. Determine and communicate suitability of reporting for internal and external audiences, document requests, identify opportunities for automation of future requests.
  • Develop campaign analysis and data visualizations using PowerBI, including overall trends, designation patterns, and other insights into campaign outcomes.
  • Responsible for providing data support for annual corporate and individual solicitation efforts, telemarketing efforts, leadership donor recognition process.
  • Develop and maintain key PowerBI and CRM dashboards to support customers and internal staff in benchmarking fundraising goals.
  • Oversee the structure and standardization of corporate and individual donor accounts for the purpose of segmentation and reporting.
  • Perform data maintenance and quality assurance tasks within CRM to ensure accuracy and standardization. Identify opportunities for enhanced monitoring.

CROSS-ORGANIZATIONAL DATA INSIGHTS
  • Create and maintain organizational dashboards using PowerBI, CRM and Excel to allow leadership to monitor KPIs and progress towards strategic goal objectives.
  • Manage ad hoc donor data requests from community impact, volunteer engagement, marketing, pledge processing and finance departments.  Determine and communicate suitability of reporting for internal and external audiences, document requests, identify opportunities for automation of future requests.
  • Provide Chief Operating Officer and Controller data on gift designations, fundraising projections, outstanding pledge commitments, and other data to support organizational budgeting process
  • Plan and execute with Chief Operating Officer annual campaign analyses required by United Way Worldwide
  • Support external requests for community impact data.
  • Support the identification and execution of Data & Measurement Team priorities and projects.
  • Support development of organizational data standards and organization information policies.
  • Participate in CRM optimization meetings: provide input on problem solving strategies, accept responsibility for relevant data requests, report any data issues relevant to the group.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college/university. Major in information technology, math, finance, statistics, business, economics or computer science preferred.
  • Minimum of two years data or business analysis experience.
  • Technical skills
    • Experience with SQL data queries
    • Advanced MS Excel skills (e.g. IF functions, macros, pivot tables, INDEXMATCH, etc.)
    • Experience with database management systems
    • Experience with data visualization software, i.e. MS Power BI or Tableau.
    • Advanced Microsoft Office experience.
  • Experience using analytics techniques to contribute to organizational growth efforts, i.e. increasing fundraising, achieving community impact goals or other key business outcomes.
  • Ability to translate complex problems using non-technical terms to multiple audiences & stakeholders
  • Excellent report-writing and presentation skills
  • Excellent math, problem-solving, quantitative and analytical skills 
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills; ability to foster relationships with staff across departments and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
