Job Summary:
The Grant Accountant is responsible for developing and implementing accounting systems for use in the recording and reporting of grants obtained.  This position is responsible for performing various accounting tasks, such as balancing ledgers, analyzing expenditures and documenting, verifying and correcting entries in the general ledger system.  This position will assist in maintaining strong financial controls to guarantee compliance with federal/state rules and regulation and to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.  The Grant Accountant will work closely with the Director of Advancement and work under the direction of the Manager of Accounting.

Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare monthly contract/grant vouchers with supporting schedules.
  2. Preparation of semi-annual/annual closing reports for contracts/grants as well as other regulatory reports   as needed.
  3. Reconcile grant receivables on a monthly basis.
  4. Monitor actual grant expenditures against approved budget line items on a monthly basis, alert management to any irregularities and make recommendations concerning the re-negotiation of approved grant line items.
  5. Document verify and correct monthly journal entries in the general ledger Accounting System.
  6. Implement grant tracking/monitoring system, ensuring all relevant grant information is accessible on a timely basis.
  7. Preparation of financial reports for grant funding agencies.
  8. Control financial reports submitted for each memorandum of agreement.  This function includes reviewing of financial reports for accuracy, ensuring timely receipt of financial reports, maintaining proper files for all financial reports submitted.
  9. Maintain and track all grant draw downs and reported expenditures for federal, state, and private programs by sub-recipient and by funding sources.
  10. Respond to external auditor for confirmations of expenditures and payments to sub grantees.
Qualifications:
  1. Individual should possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting or Business Administration with 1-3 years of accounting experience preferably in government or grant accounting. 
  2. Working knowledge and experience with PC based and automated accounting systems and electronic spreadsheets.
  3. Ability to manage detailed work and maintain confidentiality.
  4. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
