Business Unit Overview

This position is part of Novanta's JADAK business unit. JADAK specializes in customized detection and analysis solutions for a wide range of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) who rely on JADAK to solve complex inspection, tracking, scanning and documenting challenges in the medical and advanced industrial markets. Our extensive team of engineers collaborate with your team to design, manufacture and implement solutions utilizing a broad portfolio of technologies including machine vision, RFID, barcode and color and light measurement technologies.

Job Description:

The Embedded Systems Engineer Intern will work cross-functionally with program management, systems, hardware and test engineering and participate in the entire system development life cycle of embedded visions and Edge AIs solutions. It is our goal to build upon your academic base with hands-on practical applications to provide a well-rounded experience and prepare you for future employment while developing exciting new technologies. We develop Embedded Vision Systems and apply "Edge AI" technologies to solve our customer's toughest machine vision problems. Our many hardware platforms provide the opportunity for you to apply cutting edge technology, develop new functionality, optimize, debug and gain invaluable practical real-world experience. Projects range from application development to writing embedded code and the verification of performance results to requirements, all in the imaging, vision systems, and Edge AIs / Machine Learning technology domains. The environment is adaptable to your capabilities and eagerness to learn.

Specific Responsibilities: Below highlights key responsibilities, but is not all inclusive.

  • Work closely with other engineers to interpret design specifications in support of new and existing product development initiatives

  • Develop test plans, conduct testing and document results to ensure product performance requirements are met

  • Hands-on trouble-shooting of electrical components and systems

  • Detect and fix software bugs to ensure the entire system is capable of meeting performance requirements

  • Apply state of the art Machine Learning and image processing to critical customer needs.

Minimum Requirements:

Student working toward Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering

  • Proficient in multiple programming languages and adept at learning quickly

  • Excellent C/C++ programming skills and experience with embedded applications.

  • Practical knowledge of digital electronics. Can use tools like oscilloscopes, logic and protocol analyzers to support debug.

  • Software debugging skills, detail oriented and thorough.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office with excellent oral and written communication skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.

  • Ability to use vison to read computer screen and read printed materials.
