The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), Southern Wisconsin Center (SWC) is currently recruiting to fill a Limited Term Employment Facility Repair Worker position.

SWC is a state operated Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities. SWC provides a wide variety of programs and services designed to assist and prepare individuals to live successfully in the setting that best meets their needs.   • LTE positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to a permanent civil service classified position and do not lead to permanent status.

  • Wisconsin residency is required for LTE positions.

  • No more than 1039 hours may be worked in a 12month year.

Working hours are either 6:45 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. or 10:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. with every other weekend off. These positions will work between 24 to 40 hours per week depending on work load. Hours worked after 6:00 pm will receive a $0.45/hr. night differential add-on, and hours worked on the weekend will receive $0.60/hr. weekend differential add-on.

Position Summary:

The Facility Repair Worker performs minor architectural and structural repairs, campus deliveries as well as preventative maintenance to maintain them in an aesthetic, safe and functional condition.

Special Notes:


  • Due to the nature of this position, all applicants who may be appointed will be required to allow the DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

  • This job posting may be used to fill future vacancies

  • All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by SWC or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

  • These positions have physical requirements which may include but are limited to lifting up to 80 lbs. pushing/pulling large food carts weighing over 390 lbs., twisting, bending, crawling, crouching, and climbing ladders. Applicants may be required to pass a physical evaluation to assess these requirements.

  • These positions require working outside in various weather conditions.

Qualifications:

Minimally qualified applicants will have:

  • An ability to work weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime as needed.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy** to drive a state vehicle.

  • Excellent communication skills

Well qualified candidates will also have:

  • Experience with general repair and maintenance of building and grounds

  • Experience with snow removal

  • Experience with lawn care practices

  • Experience practicing safety precautions with maintenance equipment and utilizing proper lifting techniques.

**State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy:

  • Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Minimum of two year's driving experience.

  • Must be 18 years of age of older.

Additionally, the driving record must not reflect the following conditions:

  • 3 or more moving violations (with point reductions) and/or at fault accidents in the past 2 years.

  • An OWI or DUI violation within the past 12 months.

  • A suspension or revocation of the driver's license.
