Job Description
The Muskego Way Forward Bilingual Community Organizer will be responsible for leading diverse neighborhood residents and other partners in a collective process to strengthen the Muskego Way Neighborhood. The work includes identifying, coordinating, and enhancing the assets of the neighborhood in order to achieve stronger families, safer streets, more beautiful spaces, greater economic vitality, and ultimately a neighborhood that is united around a collective desire to move Muskego Way forward.

This position’s work is built upon the hopes and dreams of residents for their neighborhood and catalyzed by the strengths of the neighborhood – businesses, families, parks, churches, schools, artists, the neighborhood association, and most importantly the resident leaders who co-direct the progress of the initiative. Such progress is measured not only by the long-term overall neighborhood revitalization, but by the shorter-term milestones of enhanced resident voice and leadership, stronger partner relationships, and clustering of momentum-building development projects.

Muskego Way Forward Initiative
Milwaukee Christian Center’s work to build strong neighborhoods full of opportunity can be seen in Muskego Way where Muskego Way Forward has strengthened the neighborhood, created new connections and opportunities, and built on the leadership of dedicated residents. This work is resident driven, staffed and supported by Milwaukee Christian Center.

Reports to: Executive Director
Schedule: Fulltime Exempt position with frequent evening and weekend meetings/events

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
1. Organize and collaborate with various stakeholders of Muskego Way and surrounding neighborhoods, including residents, community organizations, the faith community, local businesses, public officials and other local leaders.
2. Recruit and provide ongoing support for resident leaders that form a Neighborhood Association of 8-10+ people who guide the work of Muskego Way Forward.
3. Engage stakeholders in advancing the efforts of a community-owned and resident-developed plan improving the quality of life around issues such as community safety, housing, health & wellness, education, beautification, and economic vitality.
4. Supervise and support one project staff/intern
5. Collect, analyze, ultimately utilize pertinent data for learning and accountability
6. Design, implement, and refine strategies for achieving neighborhood goals in partnership with residents.
7. Spearhead neighborhood level projects that develop resident-led leadership and deepen the organizational and leadership capacity of the neighborhood residents.
8. Address policy and regulatory issues that create barriers to revitalization goals
9. Utilize varied communication strategies to build public and political will towards advancing with identified neighborhood quality of life issues.
10. Serve as primary contact and maintain productive relationship with initiative partners including funders.

Qualifications Desired Include:
1. Bilingual (Spanish/English) language skills required.
2. Knowledge of and experience in the Muskego Way Neighborhood and Milwaukee’s near south side is highly valued.
3. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in community development, human services, or related field.
4. Ability to build strong relationships.
5. Experience managing projects/initiatives with multiple stakeholders.
6. Able to collaborate with diverse team of residents, staff, partners, and volunteers.

Milwaukee Christian Center is a multi-service organization that works to build strong neighborhoods full of opportunity. We approach that work through four core areas: housing, youth development, older adults, and food security – serving over 7,500 people each year. What began with American Baptist roots providing outreach to immigrants on Milwaukee’s south side in 1921, MCC now serves youth, families, and older adults of all races, ethnicities, religions, and ages throughout the city of Milwaukee.

Work for the Muskego Way Forward Initiative takes place largely in Muskego Way (16th to 27th St., Greenfield to Becher) and surrounding neighborhoods. Staff offices are located within Milwaukee Christian Center’s main site.
