General Summary:
Certified Peer Specialist will use their own recovery to assist, engage and encourage service recipients. The Peer Specialist will provide life experiences that help develop the recipient’s leadership, confidence and abilities to better one’s own future.
• The Peer Specialist will work part time in Owen’s Place, our drop in our center for young adult’s ages 16-24 years of age. The Peer Specialist will empower young adults to participate in activities at the center and establish and maintain a welcoming environment that can build the Independent Living skills of young adults.
• This position will also work part time at our Family Development Center providing person-centered, recovery oriented services to adults with severe mental illnesses and/or substance use disorders. The Peer Specialist will facilitate groups and lead discussions that allow consumers a safe and meaningful experience in their recovery.
Minimum Knowledge and Skills:
• High School diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree preferred.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Certified as a State of Wisconsin Peer Specialist, or has completed the state approved training course and waiting to take the test!
• Ability to communicate effectively and problem solve with peers.
• Ability to prepare written documentation in a clear and concise manner.
• Follow Certified Peer Specialist code of conduct and demonstrate cultural competency within the workplace.
• Valid Wisconsin’s driver’s license required.
Working Conditions:
• Normal office setting
• Occasional in home and Community settings during service recipient visits.
• Local travel as required fulfilling essential functions of the position.
• Ability to life up to 35 lbs. • Split position between 2 locations; hours based on needs of the client.
• Monday – Friday based on the needs of clients and Saturdays from 11am to 3pm.
