Job Description

Underwriter
Mortgage Department
 
Overview:  A successful Underwriter will deliver timely, accurate and detailed underwriting decisions consistent with industry standards and/or with Waukesha State Bank’s portfolio lending parameters while maintaining regulatory compliance. 
 
Job Responsibilities: 
 

  • Underwrite 1-4 family in-house and secondary market loans including WHEDA, Conventional and MPF Direct (FHLBC) mortgage loans to ensure regulatory compliance, Investor and Bank guideline/policy conformance and department operational consistency

  • Consult with Department Manager to help clarify and interpret underwriting guidelines using “make sense” underwriting and “best practices” standards
  • Consult with VA, FNMA, FHA, WHEDA, FHLBC and other Investor(s) to determine guideline interpretations and underwriting integrity; request single loan variances when warranted
  • Responsible for applying seasoned knowledge of TRID/TILA/RESPA, ECOA (Regulation B), Fair Housing Act, Right to Financial Privacy Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, HMDA (Regulation C), CRA (Regulation BB), Flood Insurance Act, Real Estate Law, QM/ATR, Dodd/Frank guidelines and all other regulatory matters pertaining to mortgage lending
  • Assist members of the Mortgage Department’s management team to develop and/or revise policies and procedures specifically affecting the origination/processing / underwriting functions
 
Job Qualifications:
  •  At least 5-10 years of current mortgage underwriting experience
  • Associate's degree or higher in business, finance or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Conventional/WHEDA guidelines and a thorough understanding of the DU automated underwriting engine (knowledge of CU and DO systems is helpful as well). DE Certification is a strong plus!
  • Solid time-management, organizational, communication, and customer relations skills
  • Desire to work in a community bank and to represent WSB in a professional and ethical manner at all times
