Primary Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the VP – Finance, the Accounting Manager is responsible for all financial reporting. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure timely and accurate financial statements. The Accounting Manager supervises Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that duties are properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner.  This position is accountable for general ledger preparation, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and budget and forecast activities. This position is highly visible throughout the organization and requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.

Duties:

  • Produce the monthly financial statements including the Balance sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow Statement, and Statement of Shareholders Equity.
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Ensure an accurate and timely month, quarter, and year end close including posting of journals and maintaining proper cutoff procedures.
  • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
  • Manage daily banking requirements.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts monthly.
  • Review the general ledger to determine fluctuations in accounts or deviations from budget.
  • Meet accounting financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures and analyzing variances.
  • Prepare sales and use tax and property tax returns.
  • Maintain and ensure the accuracy of fixed asset and depreciation records.
  • Advise staff regarding proper handling of non-routine transactions.
  • Monitor and analyze department workflow to develop more efficient process and procedures and more effective use of resources.
  • Respond to inquiries from the VP of Finance, President, and others throughout the organization regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
  • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
  • Manage accounting team personnel relative to scheduling, coaching, counseling, communicating job expectations, staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
  • Collaborate with each direct report to establish annual goals and objectives that support the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Monitor and advise on the progress toward goals and objectives to enhance the professional development of staff.
  • Support the VP of Finance with special projects and workflow process improvements.
  • Complete general office duties including but not limited to maintaining files or other office duties as needed.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 5 – 7 years of experience in financial reporting and/or general ledger
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills required.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office, ERP systems and databases
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
