Job Description
Summary
Independently reviews complex production designs through utilization of design standards and tools ( 3D computer aided design systems and CAD), often working outside the scope of the tools. Also completes moderately complex designs or designs that fall outside the scope of the design system. Able to review more complex customer specifications and make decisions regarding customer specific requirements. Fluent in product and process knowledge as well as in production structural and mechanical design principles. Uses this knowledge in decision making.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1.Review work on each project for completeness, accuracy and adherence to design standards. All work must be completed in an efficient, accurate and timely manner.
2.Complete minor project activity as delegated by the project leader. Projects can be either product/process improvement or production design process improvement. Contribute ideas for further improvements.
3.Communicate with all Drafting, Engineering and Sales/Marketing personnel
4.Work independently to solve problems, use good judgment in seeking guidance where appropriate. Interface with other departments regularly in completing routine work.
5.Work content is an even mixture of routine and non-routine tasks. Typical work requires an understanding of Engineering processes, familiarity with Engineering information and familiarity with data sources.
6.Computer literacy is critical as most work requires the use of computer-based systems, a personal computer and a CAD system.
7.Typical information used is and required to understand bills of material, drawings, design data and design standards.
8.Due to the variety of tasks, creativity, alertness, and flexibility are important skills. As required works on projects in Layout Drafter role.Create complex layout and detail drawings of various complexities using a variety of materials.
9.Use Tekla, AutoCad and sketches to create accurate drawings within the required timeframe. Adjust for changing priorities per customer specifications.
10.Perform other duties assigned as required.
Qualifications
Individuals must possess knowledge of materials and processes related to the company’s manufactured product. Must be able to manage multiple priorities and complex tasks, often conflicting in nature, to reach commitment dates. The ability to read and interpret complex specifications is required.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma required. Three years or more of training or experience in the use of computer-based tools (Microsoft Excel and AutoCAD 2010 or Higher). A one or two-year Associate degree in a technical area is preferred. 3D modeling experience a plus.
Communication Skills
The Back Checker reports directly to the Director of Technical Services, and must possess effective communication skills to work closely with product development team members, project managers, manufacturing team members, team leaders and buyers.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of specifications and information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands
The position requires extended periods of computer use and keyboarding, prolonged sitting is involved. Individual must have a normal range of hearing and vision to successfully accomplish the requirements of the position. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
