Mount Mary University is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant who is responsible for assisting, coordinating, and processing all aspects of internal accounting transactions. This position will provide support in insuring that the accounting records are maintained in accordance with US GAAP, that effective controls are maintained, and that the University uses its resources effectively and efficiently. In addition, the position will support the following functions: accounts payable, payroll, grant reporting, account reconciliations and other assigned functions.
The following is a partial list of duties and responsibilities:
Prepare general ledger entries and facilitate month-end close
Ensure all general ledger entries comply with institution’s policy and US GAAP
Assist in developing and implementing accounting process and procedures for improvement
Assist Controller with year end audit
Reconcile cash accounts and investment accounts and various other balance sheet accounts
Assist Senior Accountant or Controller in developing grant budgets
Monitor and analyze grant expenditures and prepare and provide grant reports to departmental staff
Maintain fixed asset subsidiary ledger
Provide backup to payroll, accounts payable, billing and other functions
Perform cost and financial analysis
Research answers and solutions to questions and inquiries from departmental staff, students, faculty members, and others
Qualifications and Experience:
Associate or Bachelor degree with concentration in accounting or related field. Will consider equivalent accounting experience and course work.
Minimum 3-5 years of accounting or related experience
Detail oriented
Excellent communication skills
Service oriented
Ability to work cooperatively with all levels of employees
Ability to meet various deadlines
