The Promise Program is a federally funded Student Support Services TRiO program. The program serves first-generation and low-income college students in an effort to help them remain in good academic standing, persist in college, and graduate with a 4-year degree.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a field related to tutoring subject area
Familiarity with the academic challenges first-generation, low-income students encounter
Previous tutoring experience at the college level preferred
Responsibilities:
Tutor students in specific course material, especially in the areas of math, science, reading/writing and basic college success strategies.
Integrate studying and learning strategies into tutoring sessions in order to promote independent learning.
Track student usage of tutoring service.
Communicate with Promise Program Director and Coaches to relay information pertinent to students’ academic success, persistence, and graduation.
Communicate with instructors to plan appropriate academic support for students.
Create, facilitate and promote academic skill workshops.
Participate in staff meetings and professional development offerings.
