About ZSM

The Zoological Society is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization with 50 full-time and 40 part-time seasonal interns and employees who manage daily operations and programs. Helping the Milwaukee County Zoo maintain its reputation as Wisconsin’s premier educational and cultural treasure is a big part of the Zoological Society’s mission. Together, the Zoo and Society serve nearly 1.3 million guests a year.
 

Our Mission 

The mission of the Zoological Society of Milwaukee is to conserve wildlife and endangered species, educate people about the importance of wildlife and the environment, and support the Milwaukee County Zoo.

How We Support the Milwaukee County Zoo

The Zoological Society of Milwaukee and the Milwaukee County Zoo work in partnership to ensure our community has access to a world-class zoo.
 

Central to the mission of the Zoological Society of Milwaukee is supporting the Milwaukee County Zoo. The Society offers support through funds, programs and services. Financial support from the Society helps the Zoo in its day-to-day operations in addition to capital support for major projects resulting in clean, safe, environmentally accurate habitats for the animals and an incredible zoo experience for visitors of all ages.
 

The Zoological Society’s education and conservation departments not only support the Society’s mission, they also support the Zoo’s mission and their Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) accreditation. The Society’s third level of support to the Zoo comes in the form of covering the cost of maintaining and creating educational and informative signs and graphics at the Zoo, creating brochures and other promotional materials, and coordinating hundreds of volunteers who provide 50,000 hours of free service to the Zoo.
