Founded in 1964 as part of the War on Poverty, Head Start is the nation’s largest school early education program that promotes school readiness by enhancing social and cognitive development through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families. With a budget of $7 billion dollars a year, Head Start serves nearly one million low income (primarily three and four year) children each year.
Acelero Learning improves educational opportunities for young children by working with local affiliates to improve the delivery of Head Start programs in their communities. Read more about Our Model. Each Acelero Learning affiliate proudly joins the 1600 different Head Start grantees across the country who help provide high-quality services to nearly 1,000,000 children and families in need.
Each Acelero Learning affiliate is a member of both its State Head Start Association and the National Head Start Association (NHSA), a private not-for-profit membership organization dedicated exclusively to meeting the needs of Head Start children and their families. The Acelero Learning Support Center sponsors NHSA’s Annual Training Conference and works closely with this national body to advocate for more funds for Head Start and Early Head Start programs.
