There are over 1,000 different job classes in the City in fields such as finance and accounting, engineering, information technology, health, human resources, library science, urban planning, law, communications, and many more. There are entry-level positions for individuals without experience, and, as experience and skill are gained, promotional opportunities are available. Most City jobs are under civil service. While there is a residency requirement, most positions allow the person hired to move into the city within six months after beginning the job.
