What is Goshen?

Goshen Children's Home, Inc., is a non-profit organization that works with abused, neglected, and delinquent children whose behavior prohibit success in a regular foster home setting. It is an eight bed home that provides 24 hour structure and supervision in a nurturing and positive atmosphere. The Goshen Board of Directors and Administrator oversee the program.

Who is the Clientele?

Goshen's children are boys and girls ages 8-14. Our children struggle emotionally and behaviorally. All children are court ordered into placement. Some of our children are involved in the Juvenile Justice system as well. Common behavioral issues of our children are: verbal and physical aggression, destruction of property, non-compliance to rules, emotional instability, and poor peer relations. Our children have been emotionally, physically, and/or sexually abused and neglected. The children attend public schools. If need be, our staff with attend school with the child to ensure success.

What services are at Goshen?

Goshen offers services to both the individual child and to the family. For the child we provide behavior modification, character building, anger management, daily life skills, self-sufficiency training, groups, mentoring, community outreach, and tutoring. Each child has an individualized treatment plan specific to his or her behaviors. Goshen stresses choices and natural consequences in working with the child on being respectful and responsible. Individual therapy can be continued or is available through a local counseling center. For the family we have our Family Transition Program, which provides groups to the parents as well as support in working with the child on basic issues. Topics of the Family Transition Program are varied, but include: rule setting, appropriate discipline, interaction and communication effectively, establishing a family routine, and avoiding power struggles. Goshen also provides aftercare and respite services to children and to their families after leaving our program.
