Name Recognition
  • Although Yaskawa has been in business for almost a century with operations in North America since 1967, the Yaskawa name has not always been as recognizable as some of the others with respect to AC Drives. The reason lies in Yaskawa’s original (1967) approach to the North American market. Here Yaskawa chose to go into market with "Partners/Brand Labelers" who would market, sell and support Yaskawa's AC Drives under their individual brand labels.
  • Yaskawa, in turn, would focus our attention on manufacturing, quality control and research and development of their Drive products, while working with and supplying products to "Partners/Brand Labelers". These "Partners/Brand Labelers" consisted of MagneTek, Saftronics, Omron IDM Controls and EMS.
  • In July 1999, MagneTek acquired EMS of Cincinnati, OH making MagneTek an even stronger force in the market. That’s when not even two years later in January 2001, Yaskawa purchased the Drives Group of MagneTek and began promoting Yaskawa products under the Yaskawa name. Yaskawa’s acquisition of the MagneTek Drives Group was a complete acquisition, in that the employees and location of MagneTek in New Berlin, WI remained the same as only the name changed.
  • Then later that same year in April of 2001, Yaskawa and Saftronics ended their very long branding arrangement. Finally during the fall of August 2004, Yaskawa brought the last branding partner, Omron IDM, into the fold as well. Yaskawa did so by purchasing the rights to Omron IDM Controls’ HVAC and Industrial channels.
  • Since August of 2004, Yaskawa Drive products have been marketed solely under the Yaskawa name in the Americas. There are well over one million Yaskawa drives in operation today just in North America. Globally, that number rises into the 10’s of millions in operation today!

Yaskawa Quality Assurance
When it comes to quality, Yaskawa refuses to cut corners as we aim to be the best that we can be in everything we do. In fact, Yaskawa has been known to set the standards for quality, which competitors strive to live up to. At the core of Yaskawa's competitiveness is an all-encompassing commitment to ensured quality.

That’s why all phases of Yaskawa’s business including research and development, production and quality control, sales and marketing as well as technical service, are committed to delivering top quality products and service. One example of this commitment is Yaskawa’s acceptance into the ISO 9001:2008 family of certified organizations. This ensures customers that Yaskawa is a top-notch company with high ideals and sophisticated quality controls.

Yaskawa constantly tracks and measures product failures in time (FIT), which demonstrates a high quality and reliability rate that is the envy of the Industry. This field data confirms that Yaskawa exceeds their design targets for reliability. Yaskawa earned their quality numbers long ago, and have been diligent in maintaining their record of unparalleled reliability and value ever since.

By any measurement, the quality of Yaskawa products is second to none. Yaskawa can back that point up by being the only industrial drives and motion control manufacturer to have won the Deming prize – the most prestigious quality award in manufacturing. Yaskawa is also responsible for having received these awards: Ohm Technology Award, the Frost and Sullivan Excellence in Technology Award (2004), Control Engineering magazine’s Customer Satisfaction Award (2004 and 2006), the Frost and Sullivan Customer Value Leadership Award for MicroDrives (2008), and Quality Magazine's Quality Leadership 100 No. 5 ranking (2008).

Quality In Design
Yaskawa’s obsession with Quality and Reliability is what drives their design, as it’s planned and specified just as carefully as the rest of the product. That’s what they mean when they say that Quality and Reliability are “designed in.” High reliability design targets are set based on decades of experience, benchmarking, customer input, and industry research. Yaskawa thoroughly tests the reliability of new technologies, the consistency of new materials, and the failure rate of every component within their new products to be certain that the new design will achieve the reliability objectives we demand.

By consciously designing new products based on the learning curve of past designs, Yaskawa has diminished the failures at introduction of the latest 7-series drives to 1/15 that of the 3 series, while the newer 1000-series is even more stringent.

Quality In Production -
Defects are not an Option That’s because Yaskawa’s manufacturing processes are designed to prevent defects. Production operators have the advantage of having paperless on-line resources at their workstations, resulting in highly-detailed and up-to-date work instructions for every process step. Complex assemblies are made simple with the use of animations and video. Therefore, all components are verified and approved before they are installed, and frequent in-process quality checks prevent a unit from moving down the line until quality is assured

Testing Leads to Perfection
  • No other manufacturer puts its products through as many tests or as arduous a testing process as Yaskawa. All printed circuit boards are functionally tested while under power, as every Yaskawa product is 100% tested under full current.

Quality design and manufacturing as well as comprehensive quality testing, create incomparable reliability. Product for product, Yaskawa’s overall failure rate is the lowest in our industry.
