Company Overview

PAML, a full-service reference laboratory located in Spokane,WA, is owned by Providence Health & Services (PH&S) and Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI). Since its founding in 1957, PAML's spectrum of laboratory testing services, specialized expertise and sophisticated technologies has grown significantly. PAML is currently ranked among the top reference laboratories in the nation and also considered an industry leader in joint venture partnerships with community-based hospitals.

PAML has assembled a world-class leadership team to guide our growth as a leading laboratory services organization. Our management team members are industry veterans, and together, they're committed to creating a company marked by quality and superior customer service.

Innovative Nature
PAML's success is due in part to our innovative nature. When IT applications did not meet our needs, we wrote new code to tailor the software to our specific purposes. When customer service was not exceeding our client's expectations, we developed a one-of-a-kind customer relationship management system with the help of Microsoft to give our clients exactly what they want. When conventional billing systems were too inefficient for our use, we developed a cutting-edge system that proved to be unique to the lab industry.

Partnerships
Through innovative business structures, strategies, and initiatives that address as well as anticipate the unique challenges of the evolving outreach market, PAML has succeeded in developing a nationally recognized Laboratory Outreach program that partners with community-based hospitals. By developing a set of products and services to eliminate the barriers, PAML has enabled partner hospitals to significantly grow their laboratory outreach business.

PAML partnerships range in scope and complexity from simple testing relationships to full joint ventures with inpatient, outpatient and nonpatient/outreach testing. Our hospital partnerships encompass geographically self-contained markets like Billings, Montana, through the largest, most diverse market in the Northwest, the Everett–Seattle–Tacoma metroplex.

With a long history creating outreach models throughout the Northwest, PAML has a proven record of accomplishment in successful outreach partnerships—all of which continue to be profitable.

Founding Member
PAML is a founding member of PacLab Network Laboratories. Operating throughout the Seattle–Puget Sound market in conjunction with several different hospital systems, PacLab has become one of the most successful laboratory–hospital ventures in the United States.

PAML operates a similarly successful venture in central Washington, our Tri-Cities Laboratory, which comprises three hospitals and a core lab that together provide inpatient, outpatient and nonpatient/outreach testing. PAML has another comparable operation in Boise, Idaho.

Unique Perspective
Our success with these ventures stems from PAML’s background as a hospital-based laboratory system. We have a unique perspective on the challenges and requirements of local, hospital-based testing. Because of this background, we can help local hospital partners achieve the high level of client response and services that their local laboratories and prospective clients require.

Six Sigma Excellence
PAML believes in constant improvement and in continually raising standards in order to meet and exceed the expectations of our clients. That is why we have instituted Six Sigma – a rigorous quality improvement program which continually challenges us to reach near-perfect quality. We believe in results—and that these results must be measurable and consistent—so that we provide the very best outcomes. We demand not only that each of our services achieve excellence on their own, but that they work well together through standardization, coordination, and communication to seamlessly meet the needs of our clients.

Quality Assurance
PAML is acutely aware that we play a crucial role in patient safety — primarily through the accuracy of our testing, but also through the systems for collecting specimens, laboratory processing, and reporting of results. To maintain our high level of excellence, PAML subscribes to strict quality assurance programs and is accredited by the College of American Pathologists. Our board-certified pathologists, doctoral level scientists, and certified medical technologists and technicians all contribute to a proud tradition of medical excellence.

Licenses
We are fully licensed and accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), Washington State Department of Health, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CLIA), and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (Medicare).
