Company Overview
The mission of the Chicago Zoological Society is to inspire conservation leadership by connecting people with wildlife and nature.

Since the opening of Brookfield Zoo in 1934, the Chicago Zoological Society has had an international reputation for taking a cutting-edge approach to animal care and conservation of the natural world.  Among its many historical firsts are indoor multi-species immersion exhibits, cutting-edge methods of animal husbandry, and exceptional medical care that includes successful brain surgery on a gorilla, among many other notable “firsts.”

Today, there is an increasing need for conservation leaders to guide, teach, and motivate people to protect the world’s wildlife and the environment.  We operate under the premise that the decisions each person makes as an individual and that we make as a society regarding the natural world will have a profound impact on our future and that of our children.  The Society works to inspire and engage all people to make a positive impact on the natural world around us.  In building its conservation legacy, the Society has launched two Centers of Excellence, the Center for Conservation Leadership and the Center for the Science of Animal Welfare.  These innovative learning and research hubs integrate a wide variety of disciplines, changing the way animal conservation issues are addressed and advancing the science of animal care around the world.

The Society pursues its important mission through its management of the Brookfield Zoo for the Forest Preserves of Cook County and through its programs in animal care, education, science and research, both here and abroad.  Brookfield Zoo, is a prime Chicagoland leisure destination and one of the world’s top zoos, hosting over 2 million visitors each year.

Our core institutional values--People, Results, Innovation, Diversity, and Enthusiasm (or “PRIDE”) are emphasized in all aspects of our operations.  Through our commitment to these values and our prudent use of resources, the Chicago Zoological Society has established a leadership role as a conservation center with a superior quality of service for the communities we serve.

The Chicago Zoological Society is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
