Company Overview
When Scan-Pac opened its doors in 1973 at our Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin plant, we manufactured standard sheeter lining. Even then we knew that these friction materials were not the wave of the future. So we rented a facility in Richmond, Kentucky and used it to pioneer the development of the first non-asbestos friction materials. By 1977, our research and development team had created more the 400 base compounds and innumerable variations of them. It was painstaking work, but soon the company began to produce innovative non-asbestos friction materials that put us at the forefront of the industry. In 1977, our R&D team began field-testing our formulations, which confirmed what we already knew . . . Scan-Pac non-asbestos friction materials were ready to turn the industry upside down with a whole new generation of superior products. So, in 1978, we went into production at a newly erected plant in Lexington, Kentucky. In 1980, we began experimenting with non-asbestos sheeter stock and, by 1982, we were producing it in our Menomonee Falls plant. In 1984, we began producing non-asbestos woven lining products at a newly acquired plant in Magnolia, Texas. We continued to improve and refine our woven products and, in 1985, we introduced our famous Green Gripper™ woven lining which is easily identified by its greenish color. In 1992, we expanded once again with the purchase of the well-known Gatke bearings and molded fabric products, which we continue to market under the Gatke name. Today, Scan-Pac offers its customers the widest range of non-asbestos friction materials in the industry. We also have the finest research and development department and application engineering assistance available anywhere. And when it comes to production, you’ll be hard pressed to find more skilled, experienced or dedicated people than those who produce Scan-Pac products. They’re one of the key reasons why we have such a firm grip on the non-asbestos friction material market. Scan-Pac’s business is the development, sale and manufacture of friction products and assemblies for customers requiring small batches.
