Incentive Programs for Collection Representatives

Our collection representatives are paid on salary plus commission. We are able to hire and retain people because they are given a competitive base salary and high percentage of commission. This ultimately results in a higher net return to the client. Collection representatives can often earn more in monthly commission than they do in salary, which is motivational. In addition, collection managers run daily contests for cash or prizes. Many of our contests include the money wheel, which is a seven-foot prize wheel. When the wheel is spun, the rep is able to win a prize based on where it lands.

We also have a money booth on the collection floor. Collection representatives go inside the booth with money flying around from a high-powered fan. Whatever they are able to catch in a specified time period is theirs to keep. The basketball “pop and shot” game is another way to win prizes based on productivity.

As most people in the industry understand, being a collection representative can be a tough job. Therefore, we like to make our environment fun and uplifting, while producing excellent recoveries for our clients.

The Climate inside H&H

By nature, the job of a collection representative is a delicate balance of compassion, discipline and creativity. When every situation is unique, the approach must be unique as well. In part, this is what makes collecting stressful. Therefore, we balance the stress with activities that build comradery, encourage communication, and make training fun. Applause erupts on a daily basis when a collection representative resolves an account, and it’s not uncommon to see a giant roulette wheel spinning to reward for a job well done. We believe a contemporary collections firm is one that recognizes the contributions of its staff, and rewards those individuals accordingly. This positive, mutually respectful business environment carries over when our professionals work your problem accounts. It’s a culture we foster, and one that yields the results our clients expect.

Scoring Collection Representative Effectiveness

Encore Service Observer is utilized for training and evaluation purposes. This provides a “scorecard” for each collection representative and “drills down” on the collection representatives’ daily efforts. Management teams identify trouble spots and celebrate successes.

Harris & Harris uses Encore Service Observer for its robust reporting. Managers can see detail of all incoming and outgoing calls, duration, number, time, collection representative ID and more. It works in conjunction with our call recording system and provides an evaluation scorecard on each collection representative:
  1. Did the collection representative provide appropriate information?
  2. Did the collection representative update the account for proper follow up?
  3. Did the collection representative suggest reasonable solutions?
  4. Was the collection representative on the telephone call too long, etc.?
In addition, the management team performs extensive audits of client accounts to help avoid over- or under-working the portfolio. One-on-one interaction and personal reviews between managers and collection representatives improves collection effectiveness. Daily update meetings bring issues and questions to the surface. Management teams meet regularly to discuss strategy and to improve performance.

As a supplement to call recording, managers are equipped with listening devices to monitor and intercept collection calls if necessary. Quality control is ensured and collection representative performance is improved.

A Safe Decision to Make

Almost weekly, and certainly monthly, we read in the newspaper or hear on the nightly news of abusive, unethical—and in some cases outright illegal—behavior by collection agencies. For over 40 years, Harris & Harris has been providing superior netback for our clients, lowering accounts receivables while at the same time safeguarding your reputation. We understand that our behavior as a law firm and collection agency has a direct impact upon the customers, the decision-makers for our clients, and in many cases, the taxpayers of your city, county, or state. It is because we understand how important your reputation is that we simply refuse to have any tolerance for abusive behavior by our account representatives.

Of course, anyone can claim to have only the highest-caliber professionals among their workforce. However, a “Google” search quickly proves that there are agencies and firms doing business in the government, utilities, and healthcare arena that cross the line of impropriety and legality, thereby damaging not only their own reputations, but that of the people and agencies that hire them. At Harris & Harris, we invite all of our potential business partners to examine the internet search engines with the search words: “collection agency,” followed by “illegal,” “indictment,” “attorney general,” “law suits,” “FDCPA violations” and any other key words you care to use. Whether you choose to search only in Illinois, where our headquarters is located, or nationwide, the results will be the same. No matter how deeply you search into our past behavior, our record of complaint-free professionalism remains unblemished.
