Coordinates the overall planning, scheduling and implementation of youth team sports programs
Major Duties/Essential Functions
* Participates in selection of staff
* Evaluates players and assigns to teams
* Conducts staff training and emergency procedure inservices
* Initiates staff and/or patron disciplinary procedures as appropriate
* Provides communication to and from office, staff, participants and parents
* Assigns times and locations for each team practice and game
* Supervises, evaluates, and schedules coaches, assistant coaches and officials
Minor Duties/Responsibilities
* Assist participants, respond to questions and concerns
* Insure facilities are cleaned after use
* Perform routine checks of practices, games, and facilities
* Complete required schedules, reports and records
* Notify recreation office and/or manager of problems and concerns regarding staff, facilities, participants, and/or spectators
* Perform coach or official duties as needed
* Requisition required materials, supplies and equipment and arrange for delivery to sites
* Distributes memos to coaches for distribution to teams
Supervision/Accountability
* Reports to the Recreation Manager
Experience/Education
* High School or G.E.D.
* Minimum of 2 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education/experience and training
Knowledge
* Knowledge of appropriate team sports skills, training, and instruction methods for youth
* Knowledge of standard safety practices
* Department policies and procedures
Skill/Ability
* Must be 18 years of age or older
* Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other
employees, Department personnel and the public, and to deal with them in a
courteous and tactful manner
* Strong oral communication skills
* Ability to effectively coordinate and direct the assigned sports program
* Ability to keep accurate records and complete all necessary paperwork
* Ability to effectively train, supervise and schedule staff
