Description

Under the supervision of the Dean, provides individualized or group related learning support to students who fall in a program under the Learn Pillar. Assists in the Learning process by providing professional services for the specific courses the Educational Assistant is assigned. Work is generally diversified based on individual needs of the instructor and student. Judgment and analysis are required in making decisions within established procedures.

One (1) part-time vacancy working up to 19 hours per week, hours vary based on departmental needs.  This is a 43 week academic year position which typically runs from mid-August through mid-May.  

Note:  This position is specially funded long-term through the Employ Milwaukee-DOL Grant. Funding is contingent upon the terms of the grant and this position is currently funded through 5/31/2028. The purpose of the grant is to provide academic support to students recruited by Employ Milwaukee in the Nursing programs.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for the maintenance of the spaces assigned; establishes and enforces regulations related to the equipment used; manages inventory of supplies and equipment; creates purchase orders for needed equipment and supplies while working with Faculty and Dean to identify needed inventory and supplies
  • Supports specific departments in providing smooth delivery of semester startup packets and instructional materials to improve service and efficiency for Nursing students and faculty.
  • Works closely with student services to understand possible learning needs and helps create adaptive materials in conjunction with the instructor
  • Provides alternative support for specific academic skills, consistent with classroom instruction and in conjunction with Faculty instruction if needed
  • Encourages learning and study skill behaviors that help Nursing students to accomplish their academic goals
  • Assists with makeup testing and proctoring services for MATC Nursing students
  • Updates inventory and other data; prepares relevant reports
  • Acts as a liaison between Nursing students and faculty. 
  • Schedule and attend meetings with other educational assistants and lead faculty.
  • Provides support for specialized software as related to the center’s specialty.
  • Participates in related in-service training, workshops, divisional meetings, and other educational activities as required.
  • Maintains confidentiality (consistent with Federal and State privacy laws) with regards to student records.  
  • Performs assorted organizational tasks (photocopying and record keeping, preparing answer keys and using scantron software, inspecting and cleaning, when necessary, equipment and mannequins in nursing labs and simulation). 

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Required Education: Associate’s degree required; in comparable field preferred.
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field.

Required Experience: Two (2) years of comparable experience.
Preferred Experience: Three (3) or more years of comparable experience.

Required License/Certification: None

*Basic knowledge of nursing fundamentals, pharmacology and skills is highly preferred.

  • Ability to utilize Google Workspace (Meet, Gmail, Drive, Documents, Slides and Sheets).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., carry, and push up to 20 lbs. and ability pull up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, hear and speak.
  • Sitting/Standing/Walking: 50% of time spent sitting, 25% of time standing, and 25% of time walking.

Start Date:
This position is available to start immediately and will support the Learn Pillar -Healthcare Pathway and are available starting now. This is a 43 week (academic year only i.e. mid-August - mid-May) ONLY position. This position is currently funded through through 5/31/2028.

Hourly Rate:
Salary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is based on the 2023/2024 rates and are determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity.

Employee Benefits at a Glance -  PART-TIME FACULTY/EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT- Part-time employees pay a higher percentage of the premium than full-time employees. 

HEALTH INSURANCE: MATC offers a choice between two medical insurance plans. See below for plan types:
    1- UMR High Level PPO
    2- UMR Low Level PPO

Note: All medical plans include Prescription Drug benefits at no additional costs to employees.

DENTAL INSURANCE:  MATC offers a traditional group dental plan through Delta Dental.

Annual maximum per covered person is $2,500; plan covers preventive, routine, restoration, and orthodontics for dependents up to age 19.

GROUP TERM LIFE INSURANCE: MATC offers group life insurance benefits through Symetra Provident Insurance with active assignment and is fully paid for by the College.  The amount of insurance is $15,000.  The benefit is doubled in the event of accidental death. 

RETIREMENT BENEFITS: If you are employed for greater than 12 months and meet the minimum hours requirement for participation in the WRS pension system, you will be notified of your eligibility. The College currently pays the full cost of the employer contribution (6.8%), and the employee pays the full part of the employee contribution of 6.8% of salary.  There is a five year vesting period requirement in order to qualify for any employer contributions made on the employee's behalf.

FLEXIBLE SPENDING PLANS: MATC offers eligible employees the opportunity to participate in both Health Care and Dependent Care flexible spending accounts administered through UMR.

SICK LEAVE BENEFITS: Sick leave is earned based on one times the weekly workload per semester.  The maximum hours accumulation is 640 hours. 

VACATION BENEFITS: Vacation is earned based on the length of service and hours worked each pay period.  (Not available for Instructors)

PAID HOLIDAYS: MATC offers paid/flex holidays based on position.
