Three (3) part-time vacancies at our Mequon location.  This is 43 week academic year position which typically runs from mid- August through mid-May.  Up to 19 hours a week, hours are based on department needs.

Under the leadership of Coordinator, Child Care Services, assists in the plans, organization, and operational activities of the instructional process providing general support in classroom settings for infants, toddlers and pre-school children. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment, creativity and ingenuity to analyze and to resolve problems.  Day-to-day supervision is general in nature with work performed within established objectives; planning and arranging of work requires the use of a variety of procedures. Unusual situations or problems are referred to the supervisor for advice.  Works closely with other professionals in a team approach.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitors, plans and prepares instructional activities and provides general assistance to students in the learning situation of the child development center; plans age-appropriate curriculum, including the development of lesson plans.
  • Plans and prepares curriculum and materials for learning activities as required; observes and evaluates students enrolled in the Child Development Program.
  • Implements curriculum that provides for the developmental interests and abilities of the children; facilitates children's successful completion of tasks by providing support, focused attention, physical proximity, and verbal encouragement.
  • Responds quickly and directly to children's needs, desires, and messages; adapts responses to children's differing styles and abilities.
  • Keeps alert to signs of undue stress in children's behavior; keeps supervisor appraised of children who may be showing signs of physical, emotional, or developmental problems.
  • Prepares exhibits and demonstrations for class presentations; sets up and operates record player, compact disks, VCR, and other specialized equipment related to the area of assignment.
  • Keeps order in classrooms, labs, and other space assigned; maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Keeps progress records, notes, inventories, and other data pertaining to the division; prepares related reports as required or assigned.
  • Fosters cooperative interaction with other staff, students’ parents, and student teachers.
  • Participates in in-service training, workshops, and other educational activities as required or assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned. 

Qualifications

Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirements, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.


Required Education:       Associate degree or 60 college credits with related Early Childhood credits.

Preferred Education:      Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

 

Required Experience:     One (1) to three (3) years of progressive experience child care teaching. 

Preferred Experience:     More than three (3) years of relevant experience.

 

Required License/Certification:     

  • Wisconsin Administrator’s Credential – Registry Level 12-  Certificate must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
  • CPR certified-  Current or obtained within 3 months of hire date. 
  • Shaken Baby Prevention Certificate- Current or provided at the time of hire.
  • Mandated Reporter Training- Current or provided at the time of hire.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of child development stages and best practices in teaching.
  • Ability to relate to children from diverse multi-cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.  
  • Working knowledge of health and safety standards as they apply to children in child care centers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must satisfactorily complete pre-employment requirements, which include a TB health screen and criminal background check.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs., carry, and push up to 30 lbs. and ability pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb stairs and a ladder and maintain balance.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, see, hear and speak.
  • Sitting/Standing/Walking: 40% of time spent sitting, 35% of time standing, and 25% of time walking.


Supplemental Information

Start Date:  Three (3) part-time positions are now available.  This is a 43 week (academic year only i.e. mid-August - mid-May) ONLY position.

 Hours/Location:  Up to 19 hours weekly, in-person
Flexible hour to meet the needs of the Child Care Services area.   Primarily based out of the Mequon Campus location.

Hourly Rate:  Salary determination will be only based on years of credited experience that is listed on the job application, please include complete work history.

HEALTH INSURANCE: MATC offers a choice between two medical insurance plans. See below for plan types:
    1- UMR High Level PPO
    2- UMR Low Level PPO

Note: All medical plans include Prescription Drug benefits at no additional costs to employees.

DENTAL INSURANCE:  MATC offers a traditional group dental plan through Delta Dental.

Annual maximum per covered person is $2,500; plan covers preventive, routine, restoration, and orthodontics for dependents up to age 19.

GROUP TERM LIFE INSURANCE: MATC offers group life insurance benefits through Symetra Provident Insurance with active assignment and is fully paid for by the College.  The amount of insurance is $15,000. The benefit is doubled in the event of accidental death. 

RETIREMENT BENEFITS: If you are employed for greater than 12 months and meet the minimum hours requirement for participation in the WRS pension system, you will be notified of your eligibility. The College currently pays the full cost of the employer contribution (6.8%), and the employee pays the full part of the employee contribution of 6.8% of salary. There is a five year vesting period requirement in order to qualify for any employer contributions made on the employee's behalf.

FLEXIBLE SPENDING PLANS: MATC offers eligible employees the opportunity to participate in both Health Care and Dependent Care flexible spending accounts administered through UMR.

SICK LEAVE BENEFITS: Sick leave hours granted based on hours worked in summary from 8/15 of previous year through 8/14 of current year. The maximum hours accumulation is 640 hours. 

VACATION BENEFITS: Vacation hours granted based on hours worked summary from 3/15 of previous year through 3/14 of current year (Not available for Instructors)

PAID HOLIDAYS: MATC offers paid/flex holidays based on position.
