Job Description
Milwaukee Health Services, Inc. (MHSI) is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC) that operates from two (2) sites: The Isaac Coggs Heritage Health Connection at 8200 W. Silver Spring Drive and the MLK Heritage Health Center at 2555 N. Martin Luther King Drive.MHSI offers a range of primary health care services including Medical, Dental, Behavioral, Women’s Health, Benefit Determination, and Pharmacy. FQHCs service everyone regardless of income, or third party coverage, and seek to provide high quality care in accessible locations and at convenient times. Our particular sites primarily target the residents of Milwaukee’s north side, but service patients countywide.FQHCs are unique in their delivery of care, patient population and provision of services. FQHCs seek to provide quality care in an underserved area to the uninsured populations that would otherwise not have access to care.

POSITION SUMMARY:   Supervise and coordinate activities of medical support staff in the respective clinic(s). Direct and instruct Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Medical Assistants. Provide primary patient care, acting as an assistant to the physicians according to established standards and procedures.

 
  • Orientate, document and oversee the implementation of departmental policies, procedures and guidelines for the clinical support staff with a focus on team-based care.
  • Supervise and evaluate medical support within the respective clinics, including but not limited to Licensed Practical Nurses, Registered Nurses, and Medical Assistants.
  • Use EMR to its full functionality and function as a Super User.
  • Instruct and assign appropriate staff on the use, cleaning and storage of equipment.
  • In coordination with the Quality Improvement Manager and Chief of Operations, assist in the development and maintenance  of the safety and health management plan, which addresses safety, security, hazardous material, emergency preparedness, medical equipment and utility systems.
  • Collaborate with physicians in managing the acute and long term medical needs of patients.
  • Coordinate the monitoring and logging of all injections, including immunizations and appropriate registries.  Affirm that all medications are in an appropriately monitored, secure, and locked environment.
  • Coordinate the instruction of staff on safety and universal precautions, i.e. injections, lifting patients, etc.
  • In conjunction with the Support Staff Coordinator, facilitate a duty roster, based upon clinic’s needs, in conjunction with employee/physician work schedule.
  • Make periodic inspections of exam rooms for cleanliness and stock.
  • Function as employee health nurse for work related injuries and exposures.
  • Attend seminars, training sessions and in-services, as needed.
  • Attend regular internal/external departmental meetings to discuss the progression of identified clinical objectives within MHSI’s strategic plan.
  • Actively participate in promoting and supporting MHSI’s Continuous Quality Improvement Program.
  • Coordinate and/or delegate all aspects of clinic inventory (e.g., ordering, stocking)
  • Monitor inventory, tracking, and follow-up of overdue/late immunizations of all patients using EMR and Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR).
  • Coordinate tracking and follow-up of abnormal lab results and ancillary testing including but not limited to mammograms, colonoscopies, STDs, lead testing, etc. through PCMH and Meaningful Use requirements.
  • Assist in the coordination and ongoing monitoring of the PCMH model of care.
  • Perform other related job duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Education:             Bachelors’ degree with a major in Nursing from a State Board of Nursing approved school of nursing. Currently hold unrestricted license to practice nursing in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Experience:           Two years (+) middle management experience and 5+ years clinical experience.
  • Expertise:              Knowledge of evaluation plans and treatment of clients. Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles. Skilled in patient care. Ability to effectively communicate. Skill in the use of medical equipment utilized in area of assignment. Intermediate nowledge of relevant computer software and use of EMR.
  • Language:             Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical:        Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Hours of Work:      Approximately 40 hours per week but may vary based upon Organizational needs.
  • Travel:                   May vary based on Organizational need.
