The Sr. Operations Director reports directly to the VP Operations and is responsible for management and oversight of all operations, assets, and personnel within an operating region of the U.S. Business (West, Central, or East).

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

People / Team Leadership:

  • Build a high performing and engaged team of Operations Leaders. Hire and develop talent, coach objectively for performance and skill development, provide candid feedback, and ensure the right people are in the right roles for business success. Foster a culture that aligns with Univar Solutions' values.

  • Direct supervision for approximately 4-7 District level Operations Leaders across the region with a total org size of 600-800 employees.

  • Partner with Human Resources to optimally execute recruitment, performance management, employee/labor relations, compensation administration, development planning, succession management, and employee retention efforts across the region.

Operational Excellence:

  • Ensure delivery of Key Performance indicators and facility effectiveness while maintaining flexibility

  • Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement across all facilities. Proactively identify, develop, and implement tools and processes that improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and reliability of service.

Environmental, Health and Safety:

  • Responsible for site security, safety of operations and personnel, and regulatory compliance within the Region.

  • Collaborate with EH&S Department to develop and maintain Operating Standards, policies, and procedures that increase stewardship, safety, and compliance.

  • Accountable for taking steps necessary to prevent employee injuries and chemical releases.

  • Ensure that all employees are properly trained and proficient.

Business Goals

  • Oversees effective and responsible execution of a capital budget other stand-alone capital projects.

  • Manage costs to run the business (headcount and salary budget, operating expenses) in alignment with annual operation plan.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, operations, business, or a related field/ or equivalent experience.

  • At least 7 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment.

  • Chemical industry experience highly preferred.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience with proven ability to motivate, engage, and develop a successful team and organizational culture which prioritizes safety and performance. This includes driving results through clear articulation of goals, execution on key behaviors, and accountability. Ability to coach and provide constructive feedback to overcome gaps.

  • Demonstrated business acumen and analytical skills with ability to contain costs, identify improvement opportunities and investments, and drive projects to get results to the bottom line.

  • Effective communication skills with ability to influence and collaborate across functions while thinking in terms of the Univar Solutions enterprise to drive actions which are beneficial to the business.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory requirements and processes.

WHERE YOU'LL WORK:

This role can be based in Phoenix,AZ , Los Angeles, CA, or Denver, CO areas.

The salary range for this position is $ 156,000 - $273,000. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive pay. Available employee benefits include health, vision, and dental. We also provide 401k matching for retirement and paid time off.
