Job Description

Midwest Refrigerated Services, a growing family-owned logistics operation, is seeking a Vice President of Warehousing to facilitate and support our growth. We serve customers in the food industry with distribution services and additional value-adding services. Our company has grown rapidly and offers many opportunities for advancement.

Position: Vice President, Warehousing

Reports To: President & CEO

Direct Reports: Director, Warehouse Operations - Regional Manager, Warehouse Operations

# of Facilities: 11 (Wisconsin, Iowa, & Illinois)

General Position Overview: The purpose of the Vice President of Warehousing is to develop, execute and manage the company strategy for warehouse operations. This position leads, develops, and aligns resources for warehousing sites to optimize safety, operational efficiency, stakeholder fulfillment, inventory management, and financial performance.

This includes developing and managing budgets, pricing and onboarding, new business, employee development, implementation and project management, WMS system administration, warehouse management and customer growth while guiding and directing the Warehouse Leadership Team.

General Accountabilities include:

  • Develops strategy for future growth for warehouse services.
  • Manages leadership and operations over all warehouse and distribution locations to include all current and future facilities.
  • Manages business unit profitability and report performance versus budget objectives. Perform analysis of financial results to drive organization action plans.
  • Lead and drive safety performance; including program awareness and metric improvements
  • Establish, manage and monitor key internal and external KPIs.
  • Proactively manage customer objectives to achieve customer retention
  • Cultivate strong business relationships with customers by assessing complex situations, identifying root causes, and developing solution-based strategies that generate positive results
  • Develop and follow-up on sales leads to drive business unit growth. Effectively onboard new accounts.
  • Responsible for contract renewal and pricing; Ensure all aspects of client contract are effectively communicated, managed, and documented
  • Conduct and communicate market research that impacts business
  • Cultivate talent through teaching, coaching, and developing on a daily, weekly, monthly basis
  • Hold team accountable for execution of internal and external commitments
  • Create a culture of continuous quality improvement and maintain reporting of improvement actions
  • Champion organizational principals, policies, programs & process adoption
  • Lead the development and execution of strategic and tactical action plans for the Warehouse Operations Leadership Team.
  • Mentor warehouse leaders and develop a culture of effective problem-solving based on the root cause analysis. Pro-actively and systematically correct issues quickly and gets quality right the first time.
  • Develop warehousing teams' collective and individual capabilities and performance, through proactive recruiting, retention, training, communications, and performance management practices
  • Identify, recommend, and operationalize efficiencies and effectiveness improvements through to implementation
  • Responsible for inventory control & accuracy
  • Effectively utilize and drive systems and change management practices, to ensure sustained process adoption
  • Participate in cross-functional initiative teams, projects, and other duties/tasks to improve overall organizational performance
  • Travel as required to support sites' performance, initiative teams, projects, and other deliverables

Skills Required:

  • Strong knowledge of distribution services, automation, and value-added services.
  • Vast knowledge of warehousing and 3rd/4th Party Logistics
  • Advance knowledge and skills with technology (WMS, LMS, Excel, Word, Power Point, Access, and Office 365)
  • Strong MS Office Suite Skills & Experience (Xcel, Word, Teams, Outlook, PPT)
  • Demonstrated team builder and player with the ability to develop individuals for promotion
  • Experience and comfortability with working with individuals and leaders at many levels in the organization
  • Strong industrial safety knowledge and experience
  • Strong inventory control management knowledge and experience
  • Proven ability to effectively manage and utilize an integrated WMS system
  • Successful best practice implementation, process improvement, and change management experience
  • Highly organized with proven ability to handle multiple coinciding priorities/deliverables
  • Strong Communicator (written / e-communications, verbal, presentation)
  • Excellent negotiation skills and contracting/procurement experience
  • Detail-oriented with strong multi-tasking skills
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills
  • Self-motivated with strong time management skills

Prerequisites:

  • BBA in Business Administration, Warehouse Distribution, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or related degree.
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in warehouse and/or site operations
  • 5+ years of experience direct site functional leadership (single or multiple site function leader w/ P&L responsibilities)

Performance Measurements:

  • Positive P&L results meeting or exceeding plan.
  • KPI performance meets or exceeds target
  • Leadership development of team members for succession planning is ongoing
