Job Description
Overview

This position leads an Accounts Payable Operations team of AP Specialists. The Operations a team of associates is responsible for high volumes of invoice processing and expense report oversight and other accounting entries and activities such as reporting, reconcilement, and analysis. Monitors procedures and controls to ensure compliance, accuracy, and efficiency of team output. Facilitates key financial projects including the monthly close process, acquisitions and mergers, internal and SOX audits and 1099 / 1042S reporting. Manages the pay cycle process for vendor and employee expense payments. Provides accounting expertise for special initiatives to guarantee the safety and soundness of financial results.


Responsibilities

  • Accounting & Reporting Operations - Implements and leads Accounts Payable projects. Provides guidance to both daily activities and special initiatives such as implementation of new accounting standards, mergers, acquisitions, and conversions. Aids the development of analysis and reporting methods for the work group. Tests business continuity plans and assists in the internal control review process. Leads the 1099 and 1042S annual reconciling and reporting efforts. Seeks out and takes initiative to implement continual process improvements over systems and departmental processes and procedures.
  • System Support - Creates and implements updates to the technical accounting system when necessary. Ensures financial platforms are functioning properly to support month-end close, external, and internal reporting requirements.
  • Managerial Functions - Assesses work of associates for accuracy, process improvements, and efficiencies. Ensures compliance with department policies and procedures. Assists in the training, evaluation, and development of assigned staff. Ensures departmental business process documentation remains current and accurate. Organized, with meticulous attention to detail, excellent time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Reconcilement - Develops process enhancements to aid in the resolution of exceptions, discrepancies, and variances encountered in different applications. Partners with senior management to ensure accurate financial close.
  • Collaboration - Partners with associates, business units, and managers to support the daily accounting operations. Works closely with internal and external auditors in evaluating financial data and department processes. Leads team building initiatives to facilitate cohesion among its members. Partners with internal customers to ensure successful outcomes in cross-functional team projects.


Qualifications

    Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience in Accounting, Audit, or Financial Analysis OR High School Diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in Accounting, Audit, or Financial Analysis
    Preferred Education: Advanced Degree
    License or Certification Type: CPA Designation Preferred
    Skill(s): Strong understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and self-motivated problem solver, Written and verbal communication skills
      Other preferred qualifications:

PeopleSoft or large ERP system

PeopleSoft Expense Management

Advanced skill sets in Excel and PowerPoint

Global Accounts Payable, with multi-currency invoice processing and payments

Multi-state sales tax and use tax accrual understanding

Global tax application understanding, GST and VAT

Understanding of cross-border payments, including global ACH and international wire processing

Understanding of multi-state escheatment processes, including dormancy and due diligence

Team metrics tracking and management

Successful track record in a Team Lead, Supervisor or Manager role
