Job Description

Summary

The Director of Marketing oversees the planning, execution and measurement of Milwaukee World Festival, Inc.'s marketing, advertising, and public relations initiatives. This position is responsible for the development and execution of the integrated marketing strategy for Summerfest and all events produced by MWF, managing a team of professionals, as well as relationships with media, agencies and other stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and drive annual marketing plan for Summerfest, including festival theme / creative design, advertising, public relations, grassroots efforts and other promotional initaitives, to achieve audience development and sales goals. Perform similar function for MWF events and venues, including the American Family Insurance Amphitheater, BMO Harris Pavilion and Summerfest Tech.
  • Manage relationships with external marketing / public relations agencies including scope of work, timelines, deliverables, performance metrics and budgets.
  • Support relationships with venue partners, artist tour management and sponsors in the execution of marketing efforts for concerts through general oversight of concert marketing plans.
  • Develop and manage media partnerships including promotional inventory, digital assets and other opportunities to maximize exposure, including negotiation, ticket trade and distribution and reporting.
  • Oversee development of marketing materials including printed event materials, MWF and HMFP sales presentations and reports, digital executions, relevant MWF board materials, event signage, sponsor deliverables, etc. Works in tandem with Digital Marketing Director and Senior Director of Sales to ensure consistency of creative and messaging.
  • Working in tandem with Digital Marketing Director, increase engagement and reach of owned digital channels, including websites, Apps and social media through a comprehensive communications strategy.
  • Establish and oversee public relations plans which elevate Summerfest and related events within Wisconsin, regionally and the live event industry.
  • Develop external and internal communications strategies for MWF to reach a variety of constuients including fans, employees, prospective employees, sponsors / donors, the MWF Board, etc.
  • Serve as one of the organization's media spokepeople as needed.
  • In cooperation with the Senior Director of Sales, develop new salable programs and assets which elevate the event experience while providing increasing value for sponsors.
  • Provide direction in management of full-time Graphic Design Manager and seasonal graphic team to develop creative for all materials to meet organizational needs, style / design protocol and sponsor deliverables, maintaining brand standards.
  • Hire and oversee core of Seasonal Marketing Assistants to oversee coordination of events and activities.
  • Oversee coordination of on-site media and related sponsorship execution at MWF events.
  • Establish core marketing metrics, measure activities and report results on an annual basis toward the goal of strategic marketing growth.
  • Maintain a safe, positive and productive work environment and ensure this intent is communicated and adhered to by all laterals and subordinates.
  • Work with other departments in implementing contingency, continuity and recovery plans.
  • Communicate relevant information to department and others within the company within a timely manner through proper channels.
  • Continually strive for improved means and methods toward department management, including giving and receiving feedback from colleagues, subordinates, and upper management.
  • Maintain positive, cooperative, team-oriented attitude and abide by all MWF Human Resources and Legal policies toward treatment of all MWF employees.

Education, Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to summarize and effectively communicate findings.
  • Highly creative with experience in identifying target audiences and devising campaigns that engage, inform and motivate.
  • Media training / expereince working with the media to grow organizational profile.
  • Proven ability to develop relationships, negotiate six-figure media partnerships and create new assets.
  • Ability to consistently and professionally represent the company.
  • Ability to build and maintain cordial relationship with clients, peers and people at all levels, using diplomacy, judgment and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to resolve complex customer service and conflict management issues.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage various projects simultaneously
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Valid driver's license.

Education and/or Experience

  • Proven working experience leading marketing, preferably 10+ years including personnel management experience.
  • Advertising, Marketing, Broadcast Communications, Mass Communications, or similar field of study.

Computer Skills

  • To perform the job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret company policies, budgets, or or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Foreign language skills are a plus.

  • Some travel may be required

  • Employee will frequently work overtime including evenings and weekends. Employee will be exposed to various weather conditions.
