Job Description
SUMMARY
Employed by United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County the Community Schools K-8 Manager will develop and implement effective strategies to support daily operations of the Milwaukee Community Schools Partnership. This position reports to the Director of the Milwaukee Community Schools Partnership at United Way. The Milwaukee Community Schools Partnership (MCSP) is a collective strategy to transform schools into a place where students, families, staff, and the surrounding community can work together to ensure every student is successful.  This position reports to the Director, Milwaukee Community School Partnerships.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following, but are not limited to:
 
  • Partnership and Strategy Development for K-8 Schools
    • Develop and coordinate initiative-level partnerships that support K-8 Community Schools.
    • Lead the development and coordination of family leadership strategies across Community Schools.
 
  • Management of Community School Coordinators and Partnership Agencies
    • Provide direct support and coaching on implementing the Community Schools model for K-8 Community School Coordinators employed by various partner agencies.
    • Develop professional development pathways for Community School Coordinators, including the agenda development and facilitation of Coordinator meetings.?
    • Serve on Community School Leadership Teams at each MCSP high school to provide ongoing support, feedback and continuous quality improvement.
    • Work with MCSP Partner Agencies to provide ongoing support, feedback and continuous quality improvement on the implementation of the Community School model.?
    • Assist in the development and use of various templates and tools to support Community School Coordinators such as school action plans, progress monitoring templates, facilitation guides, etc.
 
  • Operations Support
    • Coordinate and align volunteers, donations and other United Way resources at MCSP Schools to ensure equity and alignment.
    • Lead internal and external communication efforts to build awareness of Community Schools including monthly e-newsletters, blogs, events and other marketing or media opportunities.?
    • Support K-8 selected to join the Community Schools Readiness Cohort which will include meeting with various stakeholders, providing guidance on implementing the Community Schools model such as the development of a Community School Leadership Team, and the implementation of a Readiness Assessment.
    • Track and monitor school-level and initiative-level outcomes related to initiative goals and benchmarks such as: attendance, student discipline referrals, academic achievement, parental involvement, and program effectiveness. Prepare quarterly reports to share with Community Leadership Council.?
    • Assist Director in ongoing fund development including grant writing, reporting and budgeting.


Expected Outcomes:
Increase the Milwaukee Community Schools Partnership’s capacity to provide direct support and development to Community School Coordinators and Partner Agencies resulting in greater school-based impact and increased ability for initiative-level sustainability and expansion.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, organizational leadership, non-profit management or a related field and 5-7 years of education, youth and community-based experience.
  • Familiarity with and credibility in Milwaukee neighborhoods (experience living, working or going to school with ties to the local community).
  • Must satisfactorily pass Milwaukee Public School and other required background and reference checks.
  • A valid WI state driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle in good working condition is essential.
  • Preferred experience with all or some: community organizing and facilitation, data analysis including progress monitoring, grant writing, and/or using outcomes in program development, operation or evaluation is highly desired.
  • Additionally, experience should reflect increasing leadership responsibilities involving project management, collaboration, supervision, and evaluation.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
  • Ability to apply word processing and database management software concepts to practical situations.
  • Proficient with computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Power Point.?Good understanding of group dynamics and good group facilitation skills.?Experience in working with diverse populations.

  • Light to moderate lifting is required (such as loading paper into a paper tray).
  • Ability to uphold to the stress of traveling (in designated positions).
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required; including additional overtime as business demands dictate.
