Job Description

Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invited applications for a full-time Institutional Research Analyst to join our Academics department. Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness, the Institutional Research Analyst supports the University through data analytics, data mining, survey administration and reporting, and both internal and external data reporting.  The Institutional Research Analyst serves as a strategic partner in creating an environment that promotes and supports using research and data analysis to guide decision making and institutional improvement. The individual works collaboratively with faculty and administrators throughout the University. Important partners include school/department chairpersons, Information Technology Department, Registrar’s Office, Finance Office, Admissions Office, Student Affairs and Raider Center for Academic Success. 

 

Essential Job Functions
  • Integrate data sources, analyses and reporting to develop and maintain a coherent system of institutional knowledge, and information.
  • Expand and develop data models to support project needs, both routine and ad hoc, in service to larger strategic institutional efforts.
  • Process institutional data (collecting, cleaning, organizing, extracting, analyzing and reporting) for internal use, consortia use (i.e. WAICU, AITU, HERA), external surveys (i.e US News and World Reports, ASEE, CUPA-HR), and government and agency compliance reporting (i.e. CDS, IPEDS, NCAA).
  • Develop and maintain a variety of regular and ad hoc reports and Power BI dashboards.
  • Administer, manage, and regularly report on annual student surveys (i.e. SSI, NSSE, MSL).
  • Manage, coordinate, and provide guidance for all campus surveys administered through Qualtrics, and serve as a Qualtrics account administrator. 
  • Manage faculty course evaluation system, EvalKit, through the administration of course evaluations each term, dissemination of reports and metrics to relevant parties, and seeking methods to increase response rates and meaningfulness of process.
  • Interpret and make meaning of data and research findings and contextualize them for institutional decision making. Present complex information in forms that are understandable to a variety of audiences.
  • Complete ongoing professional development to maintain and enhance knowledge and skills in service of the duties and responsibilities mentioned above. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business regarding students, supervisors and other employees.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in coordination and implementation of evaluation and assessment activities related to the strategic plan and accreditation.
  • Provide support for academic planning, research, effectiveness, assessment, evaluation strategies, trend analysis for environmental scanning, and accreditation processes.
  • Streamline and automate processes to improve functionality and enhance efficiencies, while creating and maintaining a procedure manual.
  • Supervise student worker(s).

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree required; terminal degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience conducting quantitative or qualitative research in an applied setting. 
  • Minimum of one-year experience working with databases, including Jenzabar or comparable products.
  • Strong and demonstrated skills in data management and in the analysis of small and large datasets.  Working knowledge of SQL helpful.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills with the ability to shape complex information into presentations that are understandable to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing data and research to identify and make recommendations on institutional issues.
  • Knowledge of basic statistical theories and principles.
  • Proficiency with on-line survey software, including Qualtrics or comparable products.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students, employees and the public.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizing, conceptualizing, and prioritizing objectives and managing a high-volume workflow office.
  • Proficiency with use of e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software and use of the Internet.
     
Language Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before others. Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral form.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to use numbers to solve problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is largely sedentary, the ability to move is required. The employee is occasionally required to traverse within their work area as well as other areas on campus.
  • The employee must lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Work Environment
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role uses standard office equipment, including but not limited to computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
