Job Description

We are seeking a Specimen Control and Receiving Technician Lead to:

  • Receive specimens and research kits into the laboratory, check for correct labeling, enter tests into Laboratory Information System, process specimens, and load them onto instruments or direct to appropriate work station, technologist, or storage area.
  • Be responsible for daily checklist duties which may include basic instrument maintenance (temperatures, monitoring reagents) and clerical duties (filing, mailing, faxing).
  • Participate in the training of laboratory staff.

Education:

Minimum - High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred - Some post-secondary education in a healthcare or a related science field that may include course work in Medical Laboratory Technician, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnician or Medical Laboratory Scientist degree/certification.

Work Experience:
Minimum - Two (2) years of laboratory experience.
Preferred - Three (3) years of laboratory experience.

Licenses and Certifications:
Preferred - Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) certification (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or other related certification.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Demonstrated high level communication skills and the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with co-workers and clients.
Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work.
Demonstrated problem identification and resolution skills.
Demonstrated strong attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Knowledge of laboratory medicine and universal precautions.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Knowledge of laboratory testing & accreditation requirements

Physical Requirements:
Light: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

Work Schedule:
This position is full-time, or scheduled for 40 hours per week. The position is to be scheduled for day/evening shifts, Monday - Friday, from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, with rotating weekends and some holiday shifts. Hours may vary depending on the operational needs of the department.

Sign-On Bonus: This position is eligible for up to a $1,000 sign-on bonus (pro-rated on FTE/Hours).
