Overview

We are looking for Co-ops for the Spring 2022 semester who can work full-time a combination of remote and onsite, with employment starting in January. The Co-op Drafter will prepare clear, complete and accurate detail drawings, testing, Engineering Change Notices and Bills of Materials from rough or detailed sketches or notes provided by engineers or designers by performing the following duties.

  • Process written Engineering Change Requests. Engineering change requests include various 2D drafting work, bill of material changes and the writing of an Engineering Change Notice. This work is being done under close direction from a designer or engineer.
  • Make 2D AutoCAD drawings, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project. Make assembly and experimental drawings as required.
  • Utilizes knowledge of engineering practices, mathematics, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
  • Draws finished 2D designs from sketches supplied by a designer or engineer.
  • Uses AutoCAD software and Xerox plotter/printer. Uses Microsoft Word to generate Engineering Change Notice/Order. Query and print bills of materials from the AS400 main computer. Uses Microsoft Excel to assign new part numbers and draw/modify service parts lists.
  • Have the ability to make small design changes to 3D models previously created using the Solid Works program.
  • Documentation and reporting skills to support the Product Engineering team as required.
Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited technical school studying toward an associate/bachelor's degree in Mechanical Design or Biomedical/Biomechanical Engineering. Must have and maintain a minimum G.P.A. of 3.00/4.0.
  • Proficient in MS Office, preferably Word and Excel. Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write Engineering Change Notices and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Engineers, Designers, supervisors and peers.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
