Your Role:

We are currently seeking a Small Device Engineer to join our multidisciplinary R&D team within MilliporeSigma's Life Science Chemistry business area. The candidate will be part of a product development team focused on consumables, hardware, and small instrumentation for the life science research market. Life Science Chemistry is a rapidly advancing field with a constant influx of new technologies, which enable researchers to achieve results not previously possible. This rapid technological advancement provides many opportunities for the development of new products to address the future needs of life science researchers. This position is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and may involve up to 10% domestic and international travel.

As an integral part of our innovation team, the Small DeviceEngineerwill collaborate with our partners in Business Development, Marketing, Packaging, Packaging Engineering, and Production; ideate new product, equipment and technology concepts; innovate solutions through chemistry and engineering; and create and deliver quality products. The Small DeviceEngineeris expected to set a high standard for accuracy, following good laboratory and engineering practices, and compliance with all safety regulations.

Ideate new technology and product concepts

  • Knowledgeable about trends in chemistry, device engineering, and chemical engineering
  • Stay connected with academic & industrial leaders
  • Engage with the internal innovation team in formulating project concepts
  • Actively contribute to chartering for well-defined projects

Develop and deliver new products

  • Design, develop, and test new products and processes from concept to commercialization
  • Have a balanced combination of hands-on, design, and process engineering assignments
  • Offer technical training to Production or Packaging as needed
  • Perform verification and validation activities in coordination with the receiving plant during the product commercialization phase
  • Utilize statistical methods to evaluate the reliability of experimental results and to draw meaningful conclusions and follow up actions
  • Create appropriate validation and qualification documentation for new processes and equipment; assist in development of SOPs within the ISO 9001 framework

Collaborate across functions to achieve business goals

  • Work closely with other R&D engineers, scientists, marketing, and manufacturing colleagues to develop and launch innovative products addressing customers' needs.
  • Leverage expertise of subject matter experts
  • Lead project efforts in other areas expertise to create business value

Who you are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
  • 5+ years of product engineering experience in a professional setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Engineering
  • Systems engineering experience developing electronic instruments or devices with embedded microprocessors
  • Experience with both product & process development and transitioning products from R&D into Manufacturing
  • Proven track record of technical leadership of a project from Inception to Product Release
  • Advanced computer skills and experience with software-controlled products
  • Ability to apply a diverse knowledge of engineering principles to a broad range of assignments.
  • Superior hands-on ability to prototype & troubleshoot, product, and process problems
  • Strong initiative and follow through in executing project responsibilities, overcoming obstacles, and balancing multiple priorities effectively
  • Expert knowledge of CAD (SolidWorks or Pro-E)
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work in a matrix organization with multiple locations
  • Experience with ISO 9001 QMS
  • Work experience in the chemistry innovation field or chemical manufacturing
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Previously developed novel programs and applications in a modern programming language
