Job Description
Senior Staff Engineer - SustainabilityWork Mode: HybridLocation:Kohler, WIOpportunityLead, support and track the enterprise level carbon management strategy for Kohler Co. This includes working closely with business unit partners to develop and execute strategies for meeting carbon footprint goals across operations, supply chain and product design functions. This shall be accomplished primarily through the development and application of life cycle inventory (LCI). Leverage LCI models and/or other analytical methods to identify, communicate and develop strategies for mitigating enterprise level carbon risks and opportunities.SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIESDevelop and execute short term and long-term strategies to meet enterprise carbon goals in close collaboration with business unit partners.Identify long term environmental/carbon risks & opportunities and develop strategies to address/mitigate.Implement industry best practices as it relates to carbon reporting & accounting protocols and associated science.Partner with manufacturing operations to develop energy, water, and material flow balances, concentrating on Kohler's primary material sets (vitreous china, cast iron, Vikrell, stainless steel, brass, FRP, glass, composites).Develop collaborative relationships with key suppliers to understand environmental impact contribution to Kohler products and the opportunity for improvement.Collaborate with experts to model the environmental impact (footprint) of Kohler products and supply chain. Ensure compliance of LCI/A methodology with ISO 14044 and other relevant standards.Employ LCI models to understand carbon footprint cause and effect and identify significant opportunities for improvement.Advocate for sustainability as an innovation and product/brand value tool through direct interaction with project teams, training, and support of Kohler sustainability communications efforts.RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTSSupervisory Relationships:Reports to: Director - Innovation for Good & SustainabilityOrganization Relationships:Frequent contact with business unit and product line leaders, business unit engineering teams, sustainable design engineering team, corporate sustainability team, manufacturing operations, product and process development teams, tech services and corporate communications.External Business Relationships:Carbon industry experts, LCI/A and product sustainability consultants; Climate advocacy committees and organizations, industry peers.Skills/RequirementsBachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, environmental science or similar program.Project and program execution of carbon reduction across scope 1, 2 and 3 categories with track record of significant results (achievement of business efficiency/innovation as well as environmental benefits).Ability and track record of working with the lines of business to systematically identify long term environmental risks & opportunities and develop strategies to address/mitigate.Strong understanding and experience working with industry best practices as it relates to carbon reporting & accounting protocols and associated science - including implementation of Science Based Targets, CDP.Strong communication skills, ability to lead, collaborate and motivate internal and external stakeholders.5-10 years related experience in process/manufacturing engineering, product design, or sustainability practice; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
