Job Description

Job Summary

The Quality Engineer serves as the lead person responsible for the quality control activities associated with inspection, release, and nonconformance management of The Gund Company products.The role supports implementation and improvement of the quality management system (QMS) at the facility level within a global multi-site QMS.Team member works closely with the Plant Manager, Value Stream Manager(s), Enterprise Quality Manager and Engineering Team to comply with customer specific, regulatory and QMS requirements.This Specialist also works closely with the team to identify and drive continuous improvement projects at the facility, mainly stemming from Quality related opportunities.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for leading site level Quality Management System maintenance including but not limited to:
  • Lead & Implement Continuous Improvement Projects
  • Non-conforming and corrective action process management
  • Perform internal and external customer audits
  • Management and maintenance of calibration process
  • Production Part Approvals ("PPAP")
  • First Article Inspection ("FAI")
  • Receiving testing and sampling inspection
  • Completing external surveys
  • Regulatory Requirements (Environmental, RoHS, REACH, TSCA, Conflict Minerals)
  • Document control
  • Assist in the qualification of new suppliers
  • Conduct Gemba walks and Gemba talks to get to know the plant team and identify improvement opportunities.Participate in the DDB process by owning the Quality board.
  • Participate in the improvement of NCMs, CARs, rework and OTD.Use data to pareto and plot trends to help identify common causes and implement preventive actions.
  • Identify opportunities for standardization; create standards/graphical instructions and train team members on new standards.Create and maintain the process instruction and documentation.
  • Interact with Sales, Service, Production, and Quality/Lean Teams to improve the quality, speed and cost of manufacturing processes.Communicate and update quality objectives/key measures for assigned manufacturing site and report out site performance during monthly meetings.
  • Conduct training for essential quality needs to employees, including, but not limited to:
  • Introduction to Quality Management System
  • Internal Audit Training for team members
  • Business Processes / Standard Operating Procedures
  • Implement quality system improvements including procedure improvements to functions such as in-process inspection and calibration.
  • Create and update Value Steam Maps related to the quality function.
  • Lead team improvement projects including Kaizen events and other lean initiatives.

Education & Experience

  • Basic understanding of manufacturing and quality processes (supplier quality, statistical process control (SPC), lean improvement techniques)
  • Bachelor of Science (Engineering, Math, Statistics, etc.); or equivalent combination of experience and certifications, which many include: American Society For Quality Engineer Certified Quality Engineer, Lean Training, DMAIC Black Belt/Green Belt/Problem Solving training
  • Knowledge/training in key quality subsystems including CAPA, Training, Documentation/Change Control, Management Controls, Product/Process Controls and/or Design Controls, DMAIC problem solving skills and Project planning (preferred)

Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong computer skills especially with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Ability to develop statistical process control and data analysis methods
  • Strong math skills related to reading and converting technical drawings
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to communicate expectations and instructions to all levels of the organization
  • Desire to identify root cause, develop creative solutions to problems and continuously improve systems and processes
