Chicago Operations has an opening for a Boiler & Machinery Consultant Engineer, with experience in the chemical industry preferred. B&M Consultant Engineers will interact with FM Global clients from many different industries, with an eventual emphasis on those with chemical operations. Experienced engineers will use their expertise to advise clients to protect their facilities against mechanical and electrical breakdowns, as well as hazards related to processes, production, and many others. As a Boiler and Machinery Consultant Engineer, you will develop strong client relationships to advise on risks associated with client businesses as well as develop and implement risk improvement strategies.
Responsibilities: Evaluate the integrity and reliability of client production equipment, support systems, and utilities. Evaluate equipment, identify hazards and deficiencies, and deliver focused risk improvement solutions to reduce the client?s risk.
Utilize FM Global operating standards, data sheets and guides to provide consistent risk analysis and quantification as well as implement best practices.
Prepare engineering reports and loss expectancies to support risk improvement.
Collaborate with Operations Engineering, Client Services, Account Management and Underwriting on Boiler & Machinery recommendations.
Acquire a National Board in service commission and jurisdictional licenses in the various states within the operations territory to service jurisdictional objects at B&M serviced locations.
Engineers will work from a home office in the greater Chicago or NW Indiana region. Must manage their time and work independently with minimal supervision.
This is a field-based role and will require travel to large, complex industrial client sites to evaluate the operations and systems of the site and identify risks and hazards. Expected overnight travel once fully trained is 20%-30%. Travel during the training period could be higher depending on location and availability of the designated training mentors. The initial training period is 12-16 months.
Qualifications: Bachelor?s degree in Marine, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering is preferred, but bachelor?s degrees in other engineering proficiencies would also be acceptable for the right candidate.
Minimum of 3 years? experience in a high hazard industry such as power generation, chemical, nuclear, mining, pulp & paper, manufacturing or maritime combined with a bachelor?s degree in Engineering. Some chemical experience is preferred.
Must possess some knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment and systems such as rotating equipment, boilers, generators, system interrelationships and knowledge of safety devices.
Demonstrated experience to understand basic machinery and equipment along with hands on exposure.
Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in MS Office products is required.
Must be analytical, organized and have good problem solving and interpersonal skills.
A valid driver?s license is required, a company car is provided.
