Job Description
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The Vice President of Business Development is responsible for building community, customer and industry relationships while pursuing targeted construction opportunities that support the growth goals for C.D. Smith within the Greater Milwaukee area. 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Initiates and cultivates relationships with new prospects, potential customers, architects, engineers and trade partners to keep the opportunity pipeline full.
  • Develops Company Growth Plan as part of the Growth team.
  • Implements the Company Growth Plan within the Greater Milwaukee market.
  • Participates in multi-channel communication strategies in coordination with the Marketing Team.
  • Supports project teams by growing relationships with current clients in between active projects or pursuits.
  • Lead the proposal response process from a business development perspective as part of a larger team for specific pursuits. Activities may include budget and pricing development, proposal writing, contract negotiations and client presentations.
  • Work collaboratively with assigned Project teams on pursuits.
  • Assist with Preconstruction services as needed as part of pursuits.
  • Serve as Principal-in-Charge as needed.
  • Collaborate with business development, preconstruction, and marketing team to inform them of new opportunities, market conditions, pricing issues and competitive programs within the Greater Milwaukee area.
  • Networks and builds relationships with local municipal and community leaders.
  • Engages as an active member of the Greater Milwaukee community, including local industry-related organizations.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, sales and marketing or related field. Or equivalent combination of related work experience, education, and training.
  • 10-15 years of progressively responsible related job experience in the construction industry.
  • Experience with Cosential or other CRM is a plus.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Must be values-based and a hard-working, motivated, self-starter who thrives on building relationships and delivering results.
  • Ability to build and retain strong internal and external relationships.
  • Demonstrated success with business development.
  • Understanding of construction industry processes and practices.
  • Ability to read drawings, interpret codes, and be familiar with all phases of building design.
  • Ability to work within a strong, team-based environment.
  • Ability to travel to project work sites.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
