Job/Internship Description
The industrial engineering intern will aid in the development of new processes to increase productivity, maximize efficiency and manage human capital more effectively using lean and other continuous improvement methodologies. Responsible for helping meet company goals related to safety, quality, efficiency and profitability.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Evaluate industrial production processes in a metal fabrication and final product assembly environment.
  • Review existing products and develop standard work using continuous improvement and time study methodologies.
  • Will contribute to developing and documenting the most effective way to manufacture components, establish flow between departments and setup/run high mix-low volume final assembly products.
  • Project success will be determined by existing productivity metrics that include efficiency, delivery, first-pass-yield, etc.
  • Work closely with shop floor personnel to promote ongoing continuous improvement of manufacturing methods, systems and controls.
  • Conduct time studies on and perform line balancing.
  • Assist in updating work instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with day to day engineering activities regarding quality, production, and manufacturing.
  • Minimize downtime of production lines by creatively solving problems and making decisions that will not affect product quality.
  • Provide input and aid in determining to root cause investigation.
  • Continuous improvement projects such as kaizen events, bottlenecks, setup reduction, efficiency, etc.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Active participation in ongoing individual training and development programs.
  • Set goals and objectives with direct supervisor.
  • Maintain good housekeeping conditions in work area.
  • Follow safety rules and procedures and report any that are broken.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
CRITICAL SKILLS / EXPERTISE:
  • Seeking a bachelor s degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Some experience in a manufacturing environment preferred but not required.
  • Some experience in conducting time studies is preferred but not required.
  • Some experience in Lean Six Sigma principles is preferred but not required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 software.
  • High level of work ethic, initiative, and dependability.
  • Must be flexible to adjust schedule when required.
  • Must be flexible and willing to pitch in as needed.
  • Resourceful, organized with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage, prioritize and balance multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Must possess a positive, "can do" attitude.
EQUIPMENT USED:
  • Laptop computer with Windows OS/Printer
  • Use of scale, caliper, micrometer, calculator, thermostat, light meter, power hand tools, data acquisition, etc.
