Milwaukee Repertory Theater, a LORT theater located in the heart of Wisconsins largest metropolitan area, is currently seeking applicants for the position of Scenic Artist. Position Summary:

Milwaukee Repertory Theater is accepting applications for a Scenic Artist who is quality orientated and willing to learn new techniques to join our scenic department. The Scenic Artist will coordinate with the Charge and Lead Scenic Artists in developing and executing paint schemes and techniques according to designer elevations. The Scenic Artist works as part of a collaborative team of three.

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time, non-exempt, seasonal position paid a rate of $16.00 per hour, with an exceptional benefits package that includes paid time off and 100% employer paid individual health insurance. The bulk of the work hours will happen during normal business hours and the duration of the position runs September to May, exact dates TBD.

Major Duties and Responsibilities Include:

Paint and finish all scenic elements including preparing, priming, texturing, sculpting and applying scenic details as designed by Scenic Designer and Charge Scenic Artist

Participate in on-stage paint calls as required

Communicate regularly with the charge and lead scenic artists, union stagehands and carpenters, and other departments as necessary to execute technical elements of each production

Participate in the organization and maintenance of shop materials, tools, and workspaces

Assist with notes during tech week as directed by the Charge Scenic Artist

Mix paint and accurately match colors to color swatches or reference materials.

Maintain the inventory of paint materials under the supervision of the Charge Scenic Artist

Attend company and shop meetings as scheduled

Maintain a clean and safe work area

Participate in education and development events as time permits

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have at least 1 year (2-3 preferred) of experience painting in a professional environment. Comprehensive familiarity with industry standard scenic paint techniques, a keen eye, and the ability to multitask are necessary skills. Candidates must also work and communicate well with a diverse group of colleagues, all while exhibiting grace and good humor under pressure.

Ability to work with your hands for 2-4 hours at a time

Specific vision abilities required by the job include: close vision, and the ability to discern color and fine detail

Must be able to lift 50 Lbs. assisted

Must be able to climb ladders and stairs

Ability to operate personnel lift and work safely at height

Ability to stand, bend or squat for extended periods of time
