Job Description
Position Summary:
In this role, the PR Specialist will champion the USCCA brand as we continue to build an industry-leading marketing-and-communications function. The USCCA PR Specialist will take a hands-on approach to building relevance and extending the reach of the USCCA through public relations and social media coverage. He or she will work in partnership with our PR and/or social agencies to develop and implement initiatives with direction and oversight from the PR & Social Media Manager.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a resource to our PR agencies to execute the proactive public relations of the USCCA, including development of story angles, execution of PR stunts and content to secure a regular cadence of national-and-regional-media coverage for the USCCA
  • Manage day-to-day contact with our PR agencies to provide direction and facilitate the ongoing timely execution of tasks
  • Execute and manage all communications with internal teams on all public relations initiatives and events, facilitating seamless coordination and integration across all areas of marketing and awareness teams
  • Operationalize and facilitate the tactical planning of PR stunts to generate press and brand awareness including calendars, timelines, deliverables, and reporting
  • Maintain a high level of awareness of media trends as it relates to the USCCA business, providing up-to-date guidance to internal and external teams
  • Partner with the PR/Social Media Manager and our agencies to define what success looks like for communications, including the development of measurements, timelines and monitoring
  • Weekly and monthly reporting to communicate the success of PR initiatives to the business.
  • Manage incoming consumer-and-trade-media inquiries in conjunction with our public relations agencies
  • Participate in the social media content planning process, interfacing with social agency as a key stakeholder
  • Coordinate all on-site media visits to USCCA locations/events
  • Copywriting or copy editing of press materials, event materials, media outreach materials as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills/Abilities and Education Requirements:
Our ideal candidate is both strategic and scrappy. The PR & Social Specialist will aid in the development and execution of high-impact PR and social strategies while managing day-to-day efforts in partnership with social and PR agencies. Specific requirements include:
  • 3+ years of Public Relations, Social, and/or Marketing or related experience
  • BS/BA degree in a related field of study or equivalent work experience
  • Results-oriented individual who excels at getting into the details and delivering results under tight deadlines and high expectations
  • Tech savvy individual who is innovative and understands channels through which stakeholders gather information
  • Proven ability to rapidly execute in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong editing abilities and deep experience bringing a content strategy to life
  • Excellent writing, verbal communication and listening skills
  • Strong team player who is highly collaborative, as well as a hands-on doer
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Proven experience in developing timelines and budgets, and meeting milestones
  • Excellent ability to take in a variety of media information on an ongoing basis and distill down complex national issues
  • A fundamental knowledge of and/or familiarity with firearms and the concealed carry lifestyle is preferred, but a candidate with a strong willingness to learn is also acceptable.
