Job Description
Position Summary: Position requires the active participation in the 24-hour supervision of 5-24 girls in grades 1-10. Organize and implement various outdoor and other program activities as well as uphold all policies, procedures, and safety standards for the wellbeing of staff and campers. Exhibit good role model behavior with campers and other staff.Seasonal full time position with a weekly salary of $375 plus room and board. Starting June 1, 2021 ending August 16, 2021.Major Accountabilities:* Supervise campers and their participation in structured and unstructured activities.* Be responsible for maintaining the health and safety of all campers.* Guide and create a weekly schedule through girl/counselor planning.* Lead activities for large or small groups that include but not limited to fishing, hiking, fire building and cooking, crafts, physical games, songs, nature, boating etc. Training is provided.* Create a positive rapport with all campers, and their parents, helping girls to learn to respect and understand herself and others.Key Responsibilities:* Help campers follow directions and rules.* Maintain and assure appropriate adult to girl ratios with groups.* Teach skills necessary to help campers live comfortably in an outdoor setting and promote a sense of responsibility toward the preservation of natural resources.* Lead or assist with program activities by creating and/or following lesson plans each week that reflect the week's theme.* Effectively and respectfully communicate instructions, issues, and needs with campers, staff, and supervisors.* Clean, maintain, and ensure proper use of camp facilities and equipment.* Ensure implementation of Girl Scout Leadership Experience and the Girl Scout Law.* Keep records of incidents, logbooks, and attendance and return all required paperwork completed and on time.* Uphold and respect camp and Girl Scout traditions both daily and weekly including nightly debriefs with campers, Girl Scout Ceremonies, meal-times, etc.* Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and creative to situations.* Assist with opening and closing of camp for the season.* Know and implement emergency procedures, through regularly practicing drills.* Accompany girls on off-site field trips and adventures taking leadership of behavior and trip outcomes.* Other duties as assigned by supervisor or Camp Director.Equal Opportunity EmployerExperience and Skills:Position Requirements:* At least 18 years of age.* Ability to lift 40lbs and regularly walk, hike, and work outdoors in wooded areas and on uneven natural paths.* Experience and desire in teaching, guiding, and working with children in the outdoors and want to have a positive impact on campers' lives.* Comfort and ability to live, sleep, and work in a rustic outdoor environment with irregular, long hours.* Leadership, teamwork, and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision* First Aid/CPR preferred but not required. Willing to Train.* Commitment to creating and maintaining a positive, fun, and professional environment.* Willingness to subscribe to the philosophy of the Girl Scout program and enroll as a Girl Scout member.
