Job Description

Evaluates patient laboratory reports to determine if appropriate to enter as distinct result entry or scan to the appropriate encounter. Ensures accuracy when creating encounters, placing orders and entering laboratory results.

Analyzes external patient laboratory reports to ensure they meet all Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) guidelines, within the acceptable time frame.

Utilizes optical character recognition software or direct enter appropriate results and associated data for documents meeting CLIA guidelines. Scans all other documents creating an encounter when needed.

Analyzes the external laboratory report in order to identify and apply the correct lab codes.

Determines appropriate lab information to enter in the document/scan description.

Performs accurate and complete data entry either manually or using optical character recognition software, which includes identifying and selecting the correct patient, validating all data points, and investigating questionable information.

Performs clerical functions which may include: answering telephone calls and documenting for care management.

Scheduled Hours

Monday through Friday8:00am to 12:00pm or 12:00pm to 4:00pm

or

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9:00pm to 2:00pm

This is a 48/hr per two week opportunity and is Part Time Benefit Eligible

Required Functional Experience

  • Typically requires 2 years of experience in health information or in providing laboratory assistance.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must have high attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to read and follow instructions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of HIPAA confidentiality regulations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) 1988 guidelines.
  • Proficient computer skills including proficient keyboarding skills and experience in using Microsoft Office products, electronic mail and/or electronic health information records systems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make decisions with good judgment.
  • Demonstrated strong problem solving skills including the ability to handle difficult situations.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with time constraints.
