Job Description
Position Description Leads and performs engineering tasks working independently that are varied and very complex which require troubleshooting and interpretation of data, development of new test methods or procedures and are used for a variety of situations. Develops, plans, and executes detailed design development as part of major projects of large scope. This role is within our Advanced Engineering/R & D Team. Its core responsibility will be the design & development of new and innovative mechanical and electro-mechanical products. Job Responsibilities - Is a Product Development Leader for assigned projects, supporting the development of detailed project plans and design activities and managing the daily execution of development tasks with technical resources assigned to support the project. This includes both direct reports and in some cases technical resources from other functional areas depending on project scope. - Supports the use of DFMEA & DVP & R to mitigate design risk early and define appropriate validation methods. This includes but is not limited to, specifying complex tests and analysis using advanced techniques to accelerate the design and development cycle; prepares technical reports and provides recommendations based on results. - Applies advanced computer-aided engineering analysis techniques to support early system design and development prior to hardware, to mitigate performance issue as product designs mature and as needed resolve performance issues found during physical development. - Is comfortable and capable working within a laboratory environment and managing the test and development activities necessary in the development of complex mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. - Recommends improvement and/or modifications for sequence of operations, equipment utilization and related matters within the lab and test facilities. - Is knowledgeable in the use of data acquisition and calibration software and hardware used to monitor performance, collect information and calibrate electro-mechanical systems. - Is knowledgeable in development of electro-mechanical controls strategies and the software used to develop and validate initial performance - Adheres to new product development processes as it relates to project initiation, concept selection, product definition, detailed design and productions readiness steps. - Modifies analysis techniques when necessary to solve more complex problems - Evaluates product failures using advanced engineering techniques - Compiles and analyzes test results; formulates conclusions and recommends direction to the business - Partners with other technical and business stakeholders as needed to ensure project movement forward in compliance with project timelines - Performs full range of managerial responsibilities which may include but no be limited to: interviewing, hiring, coaching and developing employees; planning, assigning and directing work; EEO/AA; performance management; department budget - Performs other duties as assigned Job Skills Requirements - Self-starter with passion for Engineering - Expert knowledge in own area of engineering concepts, practices and procedures and other internal engineering standards and systems - Strong background in connected electro-mechanical systems and controls engineering - Strong knowledge of complex engineering systems - Comprehensive knowledge of company and competitor's products and technical abilities of suppliers - Excellent understanding of company processes and procedures including, but not limited to new product development process - Excellent interpersonal skills - Strong written communications skills necessary for technical report writing - Ability to lead a team - Fluent in English and primary language used in the area of responsibility and/or location - A background in Internal Combustio Engine and Hybrids systems is preferred - A background in model based design is preferred - Direct working experience with the software Matlab, Simulink, LabView and Inca/Etlas is preferred Education Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Related field Experience Requirements - Seven years of professional engineering experience Physical & Environmental Requirements May require travel of a scheduled or urgent nature to review applications, discuss problems, visit suppliers / customers, trade shows, etc. X
