Together, we can help people build stronger communities - we're just getting started. **Summary:** Come invent the future by joining the Display Systems Research (DSR) group at Facebook Reality Labs Research (FRL Research). Our work spans new VR headset concepts, novel types of computational displays, complex experimental systems, and AI-driven graphics. Partner with research scientists, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and software engineers to build cutting-edge prototypes and create the AR/VR technology that will bring people together across the globe.We welcome PhD students in computer science, electrical engineering, optics, applied physics or similar, with experience in joint hardware-software design of imaging systems. We are particularly looking for experience with computational cameras and diffractive imaging. Our internships are 16 to 24 weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year. **Required Skills:** 1. Investigate novel systems and components for computation cameras that achieve high performance through a combination of algorithms and optics. 2. Implement proof-of-concept software that redefines the state-of-the-art in virtual and augmented reality camera systems. 3. Collaborate with scientists and engineers from a variety of technical backgrounds through all stages of project development. 4. Publish research results in top-tier journals and at leading international conferences. **Minimum Qualifications:** 5. * Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in the field of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Optics, Applied Physics, or a related field. 6. 2+ years experience with computational imaging including applying optimization and deep learning methods to the joint design of camera hardware and imaging algorithms. 7. Demonstrated understanding of modern computer vision methods, as might be developed through graduate coursework. 8. Demonstrated understanding of modern computer graphics methods and tools (Blender), as might be developed through graduate coursework. 9. 2+ years experience with scientific programming languages such as MATLAB and Python. 10. Interpersonal skills in cross-group and cross-culture collaboration. 11. Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment. **Preferred Qualifications:** 12. Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op. 13. 2+ years experience with optical design, sequential or non-sequential ray-tracing. 14. 2+ years experience with optical instrumentation, emphasizing modeling and hardware prototyping. 15. Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by first-authored publications in journals or at conferences, etc. 16.
