   Who We Are:
Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 17,000 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
The Summer School Administrator will be directly responsible to the building principal for all matters pertaining to the operation of the summer school program, and general or district-wide policies.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Summer School Administrator
- Planning and Coordination
- Collaborate and coordinate with administrative team to support all activities related to summer school.
- Create and coordinate orientation materials and activities for summer school staff.
- Serve as contact resource person for questions regarding summer school program.
- Establish class rosters. (i.e. calendar for registration cut-offs enrollment deadlines,etc.).
- Organize/establish registration schedule Publish in Waukegan School District Web Page and on other sites deemed necessary.
- Prepare summer school class catalog/handbook.
- Recruit and hire non-district staff after a specified/established internal application date has passed.
- Set final schedules class and busing, as well as breakfast/lunch offerings
- Collect/organize/disseminate final staffing lists.
- Develop/oversee building budgets with building principal.
- Provide curriculum oversight for summer school program Coordinate curriculum development in cooperation with Co-principals and Director of Teaching and Learning.
- Coordinate overall summer school registration including preparation of necessary forms etc.
- Work with the summer school administrative support position to ensure online summer school database is complete and accurate.
- Ensure all student credits earned are recorded on student transcripts
B. Leadership
- Under supervision of Co-Principals, the summer school coordinator will collaborate with co-principals, directors to create and cultivate safe and positive school culture and climate for students and staff.
- Involve staff in shared decision-making under administrative leadership
- Work with the building Co-Principals, directors and staff to develop and support building level goals that reflect the educational objectives of the district.
- Under the supervision of Co-Principals, the summer school coordinator will collaborate with the Co-Principals to develop and disseminate systems that describe and define staff responsibilities and provide opportunities for staff to develop and use their leadership skills.
- Support the established chain of command and associated responsibilities.
- Support a partnership with the principal to provide positive leadership or students and staff.
- Program Implementation
- Maintain ongoing communication with involved administrators.
- Maintain a general oversight of the summer school budgets
- Monitor the processes for staff and student attendance.
- Support communication between the administrators, summer school curriculum
- coordinators and staff members.
- Organize/conduct summer school staff orientation (Booklet/packet).
- Building and Staff Supervision
- Supervise WHS staff and students during summer school.
- Articulate responsibilities and provide orientation to summer schools staff.
- Oversee WHS summer school staff attendance.
- Oversee required WHS student reports (for parents and student records).
- On-site supervision of staff/students June/July
- Supervise summer school administrative assistant
- Final decision related to summer school programs/staff/student attendance-discipline.
- Coordinate summer school teacher check out at end of each session and collect necessary information for ISBE report.
- Compile, prepare, disseminate and maintain required summer school reports as required by state and Federal regulations and Board of Education policies.
- Complete ISBE report and prepare summary reports for District Administrator/Board of Education.
C. Human Relations
The WHS Summer School Coordinator will:
- Involve staff in fostering a safe and positive school climate.
- Collaborate to promote clear expectations, well-defined channels of communication and relationships between administrators, students, parents/guardians, and staff.
- Involve parents/guardians, teachers, and students in gathering and disseminating information related to school and district programs and policies.
- Develop and employ constructive problem-solving strategies with students, staff, supervisors and colleagues in the district.
- Contribute to the administrative team in a collaborative, cooperative and constructive manner in order to support the overall vision and goals of the district.
- Promote positive relationships with students, parents/guardians and staff.
- Supervise and evaluate instructional staff by implementing established district procedures.
- Participate in the interviewing and recommendation process as requested by the principal.
- Provide leadership and direction for effective teaching practices
E.Student Activities
The WHS Summer School Administrator will:
- Create and maintain a positive learning environment for students
- Participate in creating, implementing and communicating expectations, procedures, and practices.
- Organize and schedule student activities,
- Collaborate with the principal in organizing and assigning staff to ensure proper direction and supervision of student activities.
- Provide leadership for the maintenance, assessment and improvement of co-curricular activities.
- Encourage and support student participation in school-sponsored activity
F. Other Duties as Assigned
The WHS high School Summer School Administrator will:
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Professional Educator License (PEL) with a General Administrative or Principal endorsement
- Any other qualifications the Board of Education may deem necessary or desirable.
Stipend : Site administrator will be paid a stipend of $40.00 per hour. Federal and State withholding will be taken from the amount earned. Absences or tardiness will result in a decreased amount as indicated in this job description.
