Job Description

Position Overview

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Mechanic is to perform Preventive Maintenance, repairs, installations and troubleshooting on all plant mechanical systems and production equipment to include fillers, processing, packaging, and robotics and automation equipment. The Maintenance Mechanic will be challenged with repairing, testing, maintaining and improving the mechanical systems for the entire facility to better support the Manufacturing Operations, ensuring all equipment is working properly to prevent production downtime and mechanical service interruptions. At this level, the Maintenance mechanic is expected to have strong mechanical and technical skills to perform all assigned job responsibilities. It requires good problem solving skills using logic, attention to details and a mindset to do things right the first time. This position requires a strong desire to help others, treat people with respect and an ongoing desire to learn new skills and equipment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance and repairs on equipment and finds solutions for improvements to equipment to keep them running at or above required efficiency levels.
  • Trouble-shooting and solving problems with mechanical systems such as fillers, conveyor, and case erectors.
  • Use of test equipment such as vibration meters, laser alignment systems, etc.
  • Trouble-shooting and solving problems of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Maintain accurate work logs of repairs using the CMMS work order system and equipment modifications including preventative maintenance and emergency repairs, to ensure information is available to appropriately manage workloads.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School or Equivalency Diploma
  • Journeyman Card or 4 years of applicable experience as a qualified mechanic in troubleshooting, mechanical repair such as pumps and valves, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems, or equivalent military experience.
  • Experience and strength in the areas of Lock Out Tag Out
  • Demonstrated ability to read and utilize prints and drawings of components and mechanical systems.
  • Strong mechanical skills and technical aptitude
  • Demonstrated an organized, logical, and detailed method of troubleshooting
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication and problem solving skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to work overtime, weekends and holidays to support production needs is required and can include on call coverage
  • Ability to read, write and understand the English language
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to use a personal computer (PC) and related software, ideally Microsoft Office Tools (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • The drive to learn new skills and to investigate when you do not know something yourself
  • Desire to work in a fast paced environment with limited supervision
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and plant safety standards and with applicable regulatory requirements while following the company's Good Manufacturing Practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Applied Science, Mechanical Engineering or other related field
  • Previous experience with mechanical troubleshooting automated systems
  • Knowledge of aseptic processes, equipment and products
  • Journeyman's Certification as a Mechanic
