Job Description

The position will be based at one of Tesla's US manufacturing locations (Austin TX, Reno NV, or Fremont, CA)

Department/Group:

EHS-Occupational Health Group

Description:

The Chemical Hygiene Program Manager will focus on implementation of strategic programs and policies for management of selection, management, and control of hazardous materials across Tesla. The incumbent's main duties will consist of working with environmental and process safety personnel to build out and manage chemical and SDS inventories; oversee Tesla's Industrial Hygiene database; engage with material engineers to advise on chemical or material selection; and develop internal information and Occupational Exposure Limits for chemicals utilized within Tesla. Additional duties may include providing Industrial Hygiene field support for Tesla's non-manufacturing operations (Energy installation, Sales Service and Delivery, Research and Development); providing recommendations for control of health exposures for novel processes; and supporting global health initiatives.

The position reports to the Senior Industrial Hygiene Program Manager.

Responsibilities:

* Oversight of Tesla's Safety Data Sheet (SDS) inventory and Industrial Hygiene database

* Manage the completion of comprehensive exposure assessments, industrial hygiene surveys/analyses, and industrial hygiene report generation

* Complete chemical safety reviews to include compilation of toxicology data and development of Occupational Exposure Limits

* Assist with the development and implementation of Chemical Hygiene Plans at various laboratories across Tesla

* Determine appropriate level of engineering, administrative, or PPE controls for chemical and physical agents

* Work with Tesla's overall EHS and Engineering teams to provide toxicology and industrial hygiene subject matter expertise

* Develop related occupational health risk-based training materials for employees throughout the organization

* Respond to complaints and complete associated industrial hygiene field work

* Assist with development of and provide guidance on associated medical surveillance programs

* Assist with compliance to Local, State and Federal health and Safety regulations

Desired Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of anticipation, identification, assessment and control of chemical hazards within the work environment with experience including the following:

* Knowledge or ability to understand Local, State and Federal health and safety regulations

* Industrial Toxicology to include development of OELs and compilation and evaluation of toxicology data

* Control of chemical or physical agents through the use of substitution or engineering controls

o Industrial ventilation

o Noise enclosures

o Chemical/material substitution

* Management of Industrial Hygiene or Occupational Health based data

* Work experience with Lab Safety and implementation of a Chemical Hygiene Plan

* Health based Risk Assessment to include both qualitative and quantitative methods

* Hazard and risk communication

Requirements:

* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Toxicology, Health Physics, Engineering, Chemistry, Occupational Health and Safety or Public Health

* Upper-level or expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel

* Experience working with Occupational Health databases

* Experience with operation of medical surveillance and related programs including respirator medical clearance, audiometry, and substance-specific examinations

* 5+ years' experience as an industrial hygienist or EHS professional in a manufacturing setting

* CIH preferred, but not necessary
