In the MCW/Children's Wisconsin partnership, there's no greater priority than the care of our kids. Few institutions nationwide can meet the performance standards of the critical care specialists at Children's Wisconsin - a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. With a 72-bed pediatric critical care unit, one of the nation's largest, Children's has 30 critical care specialists, 16 critical care-trained nurse practitioners and a highly trained intensive care unit team who treat children with serious medical or surgical care needs. The Advanced Practice Provider Fellow - Pediatric Critical Care works as part of a multidisciplinary health care team, providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients services as a member of the Critical Care division within the Department of Pediatrics. The Advanced Practice Provider Fellow - Pediatric Critical Care will have a strong foundation in evidence based practice and ensure an environment of safe quality care. The position provides an opportunity for appropriately qualified registered nurses (those currently completing education as an acute care/critical care pediatric nurse practitioner) or physician assistants with a minimum of 2 years prior working experience as a physician assistant in pediatrics, to deliver care for the patients and their families admitted to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin under the supervision of a Pediatric Critical Care Nurse Practitioners (PCCNP) and pediatric intensivists.
Assesses, plans, and evaluates care of a patient caseload that includes infants through adolescents under the supervision of a PCCNP and a pediatric intensivist. Performs history and physical examinations, and assessment of initial and ongoing needs of the patient and family. Orders and interprets laboratory, radiographic, and other diagnostic testing. Performs diagnostic and stabilization procedures as necessary. Formulates differential diagnosis and develops a plan of care that is comprehensive and inclusive of all members of the health care team when appropriate. Ensures the plan of care is implemented and assesses effectiveness of the plan. Communicates pertinent patient information through established channels in an appropriate and professional manner. Performs therapeutic measures and treatments as indicated. Shares responsibility with the PCCNP and attending physician for communicating pertinent patient information such as status, prognosis, and problems with the patient's family, referring medical staff, and other members of the interprofessional team.

Flexibility with scheduling to support 24/7 coverage.
