Summer Internship for students in Engineering (Signals & Communications)
CN is currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelors of Science specializing in Electrical or Electronics Engineering for a paid internship during the summer of 2021 (May 17-August 20, 2021). Duties and Responsibilities: * Design - Assist in signal circuit design of CTC, crossing, and PTC systems by going through the preliminary engineering and hardware/software design processes. Practice the use of CAD and software design/simulation computer programs in order to provide field necessary plan or software revisions. Understand design standards and practices with signal designers and senior engineers. Participate in detail and circuit checking of plans/software * Construction - Works with S&C construction supervisors aiding in the scheduling of projects and unionized workforces to complete installations of field equipment on time and budget throughout the US. Will gain a working understanding of policies, installation procedures, and best practices regarding S&C field equipment. * Q&A - Works with S&C QA supervisors and managers to determine the necessary time and resources to place newly installed field equipment in service. Will also assist in determining what tests are required for each location to be put in service leading to the assembly of test sheets & documentation for each. * Maintenance - Works with local supervisors and unionized workforces on FRA mandated testing to ensure the proper maintenance of the signal system. Assists with the day to day S&C maintenance operations including: supporting the other branches of the engineering department, material ordering, invoice processing, safety engagements, and trouble tickets. By the end of the intern program, the candidate should have a basic understanding of how a signal system works. The candidate should also have a basic knowledge of how a signal location begins at the design level and progresses through construction, in service testing, and maintenance.
